I think that child abuse is a very difficult and upsetting issue to the people, as it shows how weak and at the same time aggressive our society is (Brym and Lie 2010). I think so, because it is not right to offend those who are weaker and who cannot defend themselves, and kids are definitely the ones who just cannot resist violence from grown-ups, especially if they are their own parents. In 2009, about 3.3 million child abuse reports and allegations were made involving almost 6 million children. Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4. So, where are the roots of this problem and how is it related to the family? I want to describe the way I see this problem.
Today there are many different problems our society has. And I think that the majority of them are rooted in our own childhood. Traumas that we received when being kids, influence our life very much until we realize that we have those traumas and learn how to deal with them. I think that the child abuse is rooted in our own problems that we faced when being children. The fact that a report of child abuse is registered every ten seconds clearly shows the scale of this problem and the urgency of the solution.
I believe that in order to change this situation, it is necessary for every parent to learn how to be a good role model for their children. They should understand that their children are their continuation in this life and that they can make the life of their kids great. It is really possible and if our society starts to respect and treat the kids as equal personalities, I think that the problem of child abuse will eventually disappear.
