There are different films that have religious inferences more so from the Bible. “Cool Hand Luke” is one of the films that have made inferences from the bible and in specific the story of Jesus. This essay will discuss how the film makes inferences contrary or similarly from the bible.
The director of the film compares uses Luke as a symbolism of Jesus. Luke expresses his power over all the authority. He however, uses much effort to achieve this unlike in the bible where Jesus was given the power by his father, God.
Luke is compared with the devil for his bad actions. This is the same case in the bible where the devil was thrown away from heaven. The devil in the bible is depicted as an angel of death and evil things. Therefore, the movie makes similar inference to the case of the serpent in the bible.
In the traditional society as it is in the bible, people used to live together and share all they had. This is different in the modern society because we have individualism taking the lead. This imagery is very effective since it depicts the real image of the modern society.
The individual who absolutely refuses to bend to any authority is the most influential male archetype in the American culture. This is related to Jesus; however, Jesus had the authority respecting him rather than him having to use power to refuse to bend to them.
In conclusion, the images in the film are in most cases contrarily to Jesus in the bible. For instance, Jesus had the authority bending to him unlike the case in the film. They become similar in the case of the serpent.
