One can fully realize how easily managers can be tempted to lie. Once such a lie is not corrected early enough it continues to grow, and the situation can grow out of proportion. Deceit to such an extent in an organization may result to financial losses, which may affect the operations of the organizations. The lack of a system or structure to handle incidences of deceit in an organization encourages and makes it easy for employees to develop their unethical behaviors. One of the most effective ways to correct such a situation is to develop an environment that discourages unethical behaviors.
When corruption and deceit are conducted by the managers, in organizations, it becomes very easy for the subordinates to replicate such behaviors. This develops a culture where the employees validate their actions by arguing that if the managers are doing it why should they not do the same. Once the managers are held accountable for their actions it becomes easy to handle the same situations among the other employees. Without a proper system where there are no policies and ethical codes to govern the operations in an organization, there is bound to be corruption and deceit.
Ideally humans are not hardwired to be involved in deceit and corruption. Most of the unethical behaviors that humans do are learned or copied from other people. If new employees in an organization see that everyone else is involved in corrupt deals, they are bound by circumstances and the environment they are in to exhibit the same unethical behaviors, in the organizations, after being there for some time. Perception change is essential in ensuring that such unethical behaviors are reduced.
