Discussion #1
Organizations do have rules and regulations to abide by. For any type of organization who may seek funding the regulations are strict. The reason for this is if government or grant funding is offered to the organization then the money needs to be accounted for. The money also needs to be documented and shown it is being used for the organization to improve business, and build a pipeline for the business. If the money is not used for the organization, and was spent on items in non-relation to the organization penalties may be applied. The money may need to be paid back for misuse of the funding for the organization.
A mission statement is a key in maintaining organization. “Mission statements has produced more understanding of the role that ideally and purposely play in organizational life” . The mission statement is the foundation the organization is based on. The layout of the mission statement is designed to hold the goals, plans, and values that is expected out of the organization. I agree that the mission statement creates a common ground and a foundation for the organization to build from.
The Department of Natural Resources has a strong mission statement that is to be maintained by all funded departments. This type of organization is a dependent upon society and therefore have high stakes to uphold in the maintaining of the natural resources for each geographical location. The Department of Natural Resources has many jobs to do, and also to ensure safety of the communities and animals that reside. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources states, “make decisions that result in a quality environment, and prosper today and in the future” . The mission of Missouri DNR would be to make positive decisions regarding the environment and grow in the future. When formatting a mission statement for an organization, what would your mission statement say?
Discussion #2
An organization that does not have a mission statement and plan put into place will have a harder time reaching goals and succeeding in a positive manner. It is easier for organizations to conquer goals, and set boundaries for their organization with a long term plan in place. When an organization sets standards, goals, and plans for the future then it makes the other members stay on track as well. They can see what the goal is for everyone involved in the organization
A strategic plan for an organization is important. “It sets priorities and builds upon strengths” . Many organizations that have failed after getting started had been due to not having a plan for long term goals, and future expectations. If there is a tunnel with no light at the end then it is hard to work toward something that has not been implemented. A goal cannot be reached if one is not set first.
When planning it is a knowledgeable idea to have a timeline set in place for the goals that are wanting to be set. A timeline helps the organization keep working towards the goals to ensure the timeline is met. When a timeline is met then further planning can continue and help the growth of the organization. Funding is another important factor when setting a strategic plan within an organization. When planning it is best to intricate the financial cost of the goals that are trying to be met, and ensure they are realistic to the cost ratio that the organization can afford.
“There are a variety of different frameworks and methodologies for strategic planning and management” . When making a strategic plan it is best to make it fit the type of organization. There are goals that may work for one organization that does not fit another organization. Plan realistically, and stick with the plan for success. What would you consider the top five important items to be in most organizations’ strategic plan?
