Our group is discussing on how to establish a Chinese restaurant in Vancouver. The research of the group presentation that I contributed is two parts; one is the complete description, which includes overall introduction of the new restaurant, such as the size, the location, the type of foods, and the most important point in that this part entails competitive market analysis. The other part I contribute to the group project is on the Target market. In this case, our group will focus on students as the main target market. The restaurant will be located in downtown Vancouver. This is because there are various universities and colleges in this part of Vancouver. These include the Columbia College, Vancouver community College and the Simon Fraser University campus. (“Colleges & Universities Downtown, Vancouver, BC”, 2012).
In this time of group work, I focus on spending more time outside the group meeting; this is because I should be back to China about two weeks. Thanks to globalization, our group members do not have to meet many times to do the face to face meeting instead the group will utilize technology by communicating and undertaking meetings through email. My main part of the group is to choose the target market for the business. Due to diversity, downtown has people from diverse background, I am responsible for finding the potential target market from the diverse populace.
The potential target market in this case is the young people who are expected to be highly active in the social media. There are various reasons as to why the restaurant will target the young people and especially students in universities and colleges in downtown Vancouver. First, this is a group of people that seeks to have a variety of meals that they can choose from, and this will be offered at this restaurant. Second, young people want to get value for their money. The restaurant is focused on preparing quality meals; hence, fulfilling the need of the target market. Moreover, students focus on affordability and the restaurant will provide affordable meals. Lastly, the restaurant will be established in a region where there are many students, and thus the market is expected to be high. (“Target market”, 2012).
The slide that I contributed to the presentation is for the first two parts. One is the complete description of the restaurant business, and the other is the information on the slide pertaining target market. For the group work assignment I learned how to work as a team with the group member, and always consider the comfort of each group member, In this case, we implemented favorable strategies that made every group member convenient to contribute to the assignment. In this case, group discussion is necessary so as to determine the place and time for a meeting. In addition, each group member must be informed on the part to tackle so as to prepare and focus on the presentation. Moreover, I learned how to keep in touch with the group members when we separate; this will ensure that there is a link and correlation in the entire group work. As a group sharing of research ideas and information will help us in achieving the group goal, which is to produce the best group work.
For the presentation, I have contributed for three topics; this is the slides and the introductory part of the presentation. The content of the slides that I contributed focus on the two parts that I carried out a tremendous research; this entails the complete description of the restaurant, as well as part of the main reason why we choose the young generation to be the restaurant’s target market. I think these two parts are very beneficial, because the description of the restaurant and the target market will play a fundamental role in the success of the restaurant. The description is crucial because it sells the brand name and informs the customer who we are. The target market research is also crucial because it will predict the customers expected (Brain, 2012). The two parts are critical in opening a restaurant. The sources and information I used came from the website.
I worked on organizing the PowerPoint slides. Edwin and I edited the work to make it presentable. Edwin will be organizing our team that when we should meet and when we should share our information. I think I will give some of the great ideas to Chenzi on the promotion part. Chenzi is the team member that impressed me the most because she is a good team player despite the fact that she is pregnant. She always keeps in touch with us and comes to meetings on time. She has never used her state to bring excuses.
Perhaps, the task is distributed equally to all group members. From this experience, I learned how to communicate with team members, and how to manage my time to finish the group project on time. I think the group work is immensely useful to me in the future. In general perspective, teamwork is more challenging than the individual work; this is because we need to know how to communicate with the other group members.
