It is important to note that the kind of career choice an individual makes predetermines the degree of fulfillment, happiness, and wealth they too have in their lifetime. It also dictates the kind of lifestyle their children will live and consequently the kind of opportunities that presented to them in the future. The most challenging factor is to find a career that is exponentially expanding and not contracting in the near future. In the recent decade, large numbers of unemployed skilled personnel in the community has crippled the country. However, in the year 2009, employment opportunities started growing and there has been a lot of competition in the job market to find the most suitable well-paying opportunities.
It is expected that in the next ten to twenty years, the employment opportunities will increase by a shocking 22%. Many sources will offer advice based on the percentage growth statistics of recent years but this should not be the sole indicator. The most important factors to consider when making this life changing decision is
- Job satisfaction
- Most paying careers
- Jobs easiest to secure
- Time needed for training
- Most reliable sectors and
- The future trends
According the bureau of statistics, the most trending careers will be determined by the baby boom factor. This is the increasing number of people expected to retire in the future. With every coming year, the baby boom exponentially increases in percentage creating job opportunities in the future. Last year the baby boom numbers were 65 years and they are expected to increase with the years. The main sector that benefits from this is the healthcare industry as well as investment consultant since they will be looking to invest their retirement. In addition, the web technology industry has been showing good signs of advancements creating another option.
Purpose, scope, and limitations
The purpose of this formal report is to identify two very promising careers and recommend one that has the best chance giving the most profitable job security. According to statistics and research conducted by numerous specialists, the most promising careers are as registered nursing and computer technologies.
The healthcare system is growing through leaps and bound according to statistics collected in the recent past. It is directly related to the increasing number of retiring members of the society or otherwise the baby boom factor. As the numbers of aging society is increasing, so do their medical issues. This makes this career choice ripe with potential. In addition to these new opportunities, nurses have grown in demand in the past. This makes for job security and an ever-expanding sector. Averagely, a nurse makes up to $85,000 a year, which is quite impressive considering that a nursing degree takes only four years. The sector is also expected to increase by 23% in demand by 2020.
The technology sector had grown at an alarming rate in the past. Returns from the industry are the rave of the stock market exchange. In addition, the IT courses are the most sorted after degrees today. This has led to institutions like M.I.T gaining global recognition for their relevance in the matter. Analysts and researchers argue that we have seen is just but the least of it. The industry is expected to contribute for 30% growth in the employment sector. It is rumored that average system engineers have an entry salary of $60,000 per year and on average, they make $119,000 per annum.
However, nursing as a career is quite a challenging affair. For instance, to secure a place in a reputable nursing school, very high GPA points are required. In addition, without a scholarship the cost of paying tuition is quite astronomical. After graduating, extra examination by the nursing board is required and therefore additional schoolwork. On the hand information, system engineers need to have a specific motivation to pursue the career in order to succeed. The need to be innovative dynamic and well equipped with knowledge of the latest ideas in order to remain relevant in the sector. In addition, most programs offered in competitive schools run for five years instead of the traditional four in most programs.
Sources and methods
Dwyer (2009) argues that the technology sector is lacking in leadership management. After aggressive research and analysis, it comes to the researcher’s attention that the IT sector had an influx of young generation career people. Despite their functionality in developing the best products and meeting the clients need and even surpassing expectation, the sector was in need of some older members of the society with management skills. It was therefore recommended that all generations should work together to improve management skills in the growing industry.
Widerszal-Bazyl, Radkiewicz, Hasselhorn, Maurice Conway & van der Heijden (2008) used explanatory power of the Demand Control Support (DCS) model measure the employment opportunities in the nursing industry. It was hypothesized that through multiple regression, women in the nursing industry all over the globe were more likely to have better job securities compared to other sectors.
Employment opportunities have been quite unpredictable and unreliable in the recent past. The situation has been aggravated by the crippling recession that has taken its toll on most if not all employment sectors. Baumann, Hunsberger, & Crea-Arsenio (2012) use economic theory and equilibrium economics to determine the stability of the nursing industry in the future. Using factors like the casual working employment and substantial working investment by the government, they come to a conclusive trend analysis in the industry. Results indicated that new graduate nurses had better chances of success and better pay.
Rosenfeld & Russell (2012) analyze the home and community based service industry. This is a group of practitioners who offer specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions and functional impairment. They record that the current healthcare policies adapted in the United States embrace this kind of healthcare making proving new employment opportunities for medical and nursing practitioners. The increasing retirees have also made these opportunities quite favorable and the industry is benefiting due to the changed. In addition, these developments affect trends in the society, policy development, and number of nursing workforce. Using this method of analysis, it is anticipated that the nursing industry will be among the leading industries with the biggest employment opportunities due to the demand created by the changes. Due to these shifting needs, nursing is quite the vocation to invest in.
Leighton (2010) basis his research on a women focus group. He decides upon this because women are the most dynamic employment targets in the community today and will give a more refined view of the future. Women are said to benefit from the employment opportunities in the healthcare and IT sector. Women have been observed to take up more aggressive roles in the society therefore expected to benefit most in this changes. In addition, support groups have invested heavily in making women the most covet upon workforce since the meet best the needs of the client and employer. Some of these programs include women’s employment network who find women find employment and give them advice on starting businesses. In addition to this two career opportunities, biologists and recyclers are the employment providers. Malul (2009) finally uses regression analysis to determine that the opportunities offered in the IT sector will improve the earning capacity of the working generation. However, these changes will affect the older generation that is not skilled to provide this needs in the exponentially growing industry.
Report organization
In conclusion, sources support that the nursing and information technology industry will be the biggest contributors of employment in the future. However, nursing is the best suited to provide the best career opportunities for an average citizen. This could be because the IT industry is very dynamic and employees will continuously find themselves in need of education advancement. In addition, after the recession is complete, the nursing industry will be lacking in practitioners and the few in the sector will find themselves enjoying premium pay.
