Freedom writers said that most kids had been written off by education system, claiming to be un-teachable. They said every student is teachable. The book, the quest speaker, and the movie changed the lives of many students in society.
The forum emphasized students critical thinkers and, stoppage of stereotypes. The freedom writers said education is an important tool to transform the world way of thinking, and inspiring students to be what they want to be in life. All students have the potential, of becoming what they want to be, but they need support to realize their potentiality.
The main aim of our quest speaker and the movie is to inspire students to learn their responsibilities. The unique teacher used numerous ways to inspire her students to be responsible. The story if 150 kids in California who call themselves freedom writers, and a teacher who changed their lives. most of the students had bad past experience, other had been in jail, members of a bad gang, while some of their friend was facing trial for murder, the entire class knew more about violence rather than education. The teacher was just 23 year old, with no experience.
In her teaching, the young teacher showed them different situation and compared it with their real life. She related how racial discrimination and hatred can yield many problems in the society. She used numerous tactics to reach these kids. What mattered most was to change; hence, the past does not matter anymore. The teacher changed decided dedicate all her life to improving the lives of this kids.
The kid said, “I lost my father to AIDS in the year 1995.” Juvenile had been a home him. After he was released from juvenile, he went to many schools. The teacher used music and rap in teaching the kids, taught them new vocabularies, and even quoted some Romeo and Juliet story. The class was full of diaries; she received critics from the administration terming it expensive and inappropriate. The students began to write their own diaries, instead of being in the streets at night. The lives of the kids changed from being street fighter to freedom writers; in fact, they presented their diaries to education ministries.
The teacher taught the realities of life. Kids became hopeful about life, and even discovered what they wanted to be in future. Others said they want to be businesspersons, engineers, and teachers. It was a great challenge, the teacher taught them to always be themselves, and see themselves as being successful.
The challenges that the teacher saw made her think to otherwise. she said she had never stood for anything in life. The 150 students under the custody of the teacher had never known the American dream. The kids said they were from a single mother, children’s home, and rehabilitation centers. The kid said she wanted to be the first in the family to join high school, and break the chain in the family.
At the age of 11, Maria believed she could make money, and change the lifestyles they lived. That is the clothes hem mother wore and the hotels they went to take meals. The students were intelligent and beautiful, and the teacher used her own money and other support to endure that the kid came back to school.
