Diagnosis:
Some of the steps of the rational change model have been implemented in Trinity High School. David Beck identified issues in the traditional communication system that was very bureaucratic and rigid communication channel and effected change in order to deal with the problem.
No force field analysis has been used during the entire change process. No data was collected, no alternatives were provided. Only one solution was suggested and implemented as the change. In the case study, the appropriate change agents have been identified. The district superintendents were the change agents who would lead change to the cluster based system.
The interventions provided in the case study are appropriate. This is mainly because they aim at creating efficiency in the communication systems. In addition, the intervention provided provides a mechanism through which communication problems existent in the traditional systems can be solved. Mechanisms for institutionalizing the change are present but there is a conflict between two agents of change i.e. Rita Moreno and Fran Tarkington.
Prescribe:
The main weakness in the change process at Trinity High School is the conflict between cluster leader Rita and the principal Fran. Based on the change plan suggested by David Beck communication for decision-making has been decentralized. Therefore, Fran should conform to the recommended changes. This is mainly because he is insisting to be at the center of all decisions made by his staff. However, he is ignoring the fact that the centralized leadership model has been done away with. He needs to support cluster leader Rita and allow her to play her part. In addition, the two should cooperate and work together in order to ensure that the school and the cluster work together towards the achievement of the goals.
