B. Rationale and significance
The college tuition fees in the recent past have been increasing at an alarming rate. Considering the fact that prodigious numbers of jobs demand one form or another of tertiary or training to higher education, the need of this education has increased equally. However, the high tuition fee have been crippling to students. Without financial aid, they are forced to seek student loans that simply put them to debt even before they start earning.
This discourages students from joining colleges and universities, hindering them from gaining skills and knowhow required fully to participate in the economy. This creates a trend that uses a student’s ability to pay the dear cost of education as the ones with the privilege of pursuing an education unburdened by loans.
In the light of this unpleasant and objectionable state of affairs, it has become critical that UMBC welcomes proposals of reduction of tuition.
