The influence of Negro American on the emergence of African Nationalism is indisputable. There had been only about 500,000 free African Americans slaves before the Civil War started in 1862. The battles of the Civil War involved millions of soldiers and most of the histories took place in the eastern part of Carolina. The American Civil War was a consequence of differences that were arising due to some problems that were not sorted out fully with the ratification of the United States Constitution. The main lasting effect of the battle was the elimination of the institution of slavery in America and the nation getting united as one instead of a group of independent states. Negroes were barred from taking arms for the U.S. army and Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation unlocked the doors for the, However, the black units were still not used extensively in battle and performed subordinate duties like laborers and cooks. However, the Black infantrymen served with distinction and "Black for intelligence Dispatches" collected information for intelligence.
There were months of negotiations at different sites and points in the Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln worked on a strategy that would force the South to negotiate a peace deal. There were also negotiations between Prisoner Exchange Agreement and Confederate to deal with the issue of excessive prisoners on one side. The largest battle ever was fought in North Carolina and by the end of 1864, the Confederacy was left only with courage and obstinacy. There were no expectations for an exchanged peace as the South was firm to fight on, at any cost.
The black slaves had a choice to join British army or the Patriot, and they were lured by promises of freedom and monetary payments. They fought on both sides of the Revolution, but the majority was seen fighting for the Union. However, in the Confederacy, the African-Americans were still working as slaves. With the passage of the Second Confiscation and Militia Act, black slaves were allowed to enlist as volunteers. When more soldiers were needed by the Confederate in 1863, the black men were offered to serve in the battle. The course of the Civil war would certainly have been different if the African Americans were not so involved. The final battle took place in 1865 and ended in a Confederate victory. The Civil war went on for a longer time. The northern African Americans were known to be better skilled as compared to the southern counterpart, and enjoyed higher power to negotiate with their masters. They worked as weavers, bakers, tailors, goldsmiths, but faced tough competition in these fields from the white workers. Thus, the blacks never enjoyed the true meaning of freedom from slavery even after the war.
