Salespersons are important within the production cycle since they ensure that products and services reach the consumers at the right place and time. As a result, salespersons add the place and time utility to a given product. Salespersons have incredible convincing powers that they can influence the buying behaviors of consumers. Consequently, this has raised a lot of interests and concerned. Motivated by the same interests and concerns, the following is an interview with a Samsung’s salesperson.
Biography of the Salesperson
David is a renowned salesperson who assists in distributing products from Samsung. Specifically, David sells cell phones, cameras, laptops, and sound systems. David is a salesperson who has the energy, ability, skills, and knowledge of driving revenue results. According to David, he has experienced and in-depth knowledge in sales and marketing. Besides having a first degree in sales and marketing, David, who is 25 years of age has been working as a salesperson for Samsung for a period of 3 years. He believes that the 3 years of experience confirms his ability to diligently carry out his duties as a salesperson. From the observation of David, it is clear that is an honest, open-minded, courageous, ambitious, and a person of good judgment. Based on his attractiveness, I became interested in knowing more about the profession and how David uses his skills and knowledge in order to achieve set targets and objectives.
The following are the interview questions and answers obtained from David:
- Tell us more about sales as a profession
When asked to tell us more about sales as a profession, David started by appreciating the fact that training is an important concept. In addition, David confesses that every profession is important, enjoyable, and in most cases very challenging. According to him, sales profession is very demanding given the relationship between the salesperson and the clients. David asserts that there is a need for a salesperson to be very close to the customers. It is important to note that every salesperson should be slow to anger since some customers may be very annoying. Nonetheless, David says that he is very happy about being a salesperson and confirms that given another chance he will choose to be a salesperson.
- What would you say about Samsung as a business organization?
David asserts that Samsung is an organization that is growing at a faster rate. In addition, David identifies one of the why Samsung is growing to be the quality of products that it produces as well as the services it offers. According to him, it is a pleasure working and selling products for a fast growing company. He confirms to me that Samsung will be a force to reckon with in the near future as it continues to provide high quality services.
- What motivates you as you sell Samsung products?
Other than the fact that he sells high quality products and services, David confirms that laughs out loud and says of course money will be the first thing that would motivate a salesperson. This is because salespersons are paid on commission. The higher the amount of revenue of returns the higher the commission. In addition, David confirms that the thrilling moments during the closing of sales also motivates him a lot. David finishes by saying that sales as a profession motivates him on the fact that he meets various people.
- There has been a misconception between sales and marketing. Do you think there is a relationship between sales and marketing? What is the relationship based on your understanding?
David believes that even though there is a misconception between sales and marketing, he confirms that there is a thin line of difference between the two concepts. David believes that sales involve the actual act of completing the production cycle by ensuring that the final products reach the consumer at the right time and place. Marketing on the other hand involves an array of activities that would lead to completing the production cycle. David therefore says that marketing encompasses sales promotion and advertising besides convincing customers to purchase the products and for his case Samsung products. However, David confirms that these two concepts go hand-in-hand and that marketing will always lead to sales. Without marketing sales may never be achieved as desired.
- Every salesperson usually closes sales with specific questions? What are some of the favorite questions that you use during the closing of sales?
When asked this question, David giggled and said that he did giggle due to the fact that he loves and enjoys closing sales. David says that this is a question that creates an understanding of the sales practices and skills of an individual. As such, David says that there are no specific questions that he uses to close sales. In his perception and experience during the profession, David confirms that the questions vary from one experience to another. Therefore, David assets that every experience provides a new opportunity to develop a closing question.
- What piece of advice can you give to those in sales and those who would wish to be involved in the same profession?
In conclusion, David advises the salespersons and would-be salespersons to be committed and continue to preserve even when things do not seem right. David encourages every individual to pursue a course that meets their dreams. Dreams and aspirations are the best benchmarks upon which every individual should build their career. David finishes by saying that he dreamt of being a salesperson ever since he was 10 years old. All in all, being a salesperson is a profession like any other that has opportunities and challenges as well.
