Arguably, much research is being carried out to develop strongest antiviral drugs that can treat many viruses. At St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, scientists assert that certain drugs can be used to inhibit and target an enzyme essential for influenza virus replication. In this case, drug molecules that designed to deal with influenza can be adapted to treat various viruses. The new strains have emerged due to development of influenza vaccine. Medical experts' belief that the development of very virulent strains may lead to a catastrophe. The process of developing such development may lead to the development of drugs that can treat influenza, as well as impede the ability of the virus in the tendency of developing drug resistance. It is also crucial to mention that viruses in the past had tremendously developed resistance to various antiviral drugs that are currently in the marketplace (St Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 2012). Based on previous research, scientist that mapped endonuclease molecular structure reveled active sites. These revelations lead to the design of endonuclease to determine if it will block the active sites. The inhibition of active sites was tested using six compounds believed to block them. The results showed that the six compounds worked against endonuclease. Further research asserts that resistance by viral strains occurs due to mutation of the viral strain eliminating the capacity of the drug to block and bind the active sites (St Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 2012). Making the discovery and identification of sites that are active in protein will help in the development of specific drugs. These drugs would be very effective in treating influence and other viruses.
