The black box is a flight or aircraft data recorder. It mainly collects and gathers the flight parameters information and stores them as evidence in the case of a plane crash. It is a technology that each and every corporate jet or commercial airplane should be equipped with. Black box has both positive and negative impacts on the economic effects. Furthermore, it may influence the environment either directly or indirectly.
Environmental Effects
Black box indirectly impacts on the environment, by regulating and indicating any changes in the engine performance. This makes sure the engine does not produce smoke or any other dangerous fumes to the environment without recording. It indirectly acts as an environmental assessor and monitor. Furthermore, it impacts on the environmental pressure and temperature as it measures and indicates change when the temperature goes up to ensure maximum security of the plane(Rosenberg, 1994).
Similarly, it has the ability to record all information that happens in a plane. Black box enables prevention and maintenance of the plane to control crash. In so doing, it protects the environment from destruction from crash impact and fire that would result in a crash. This indirectly protects the environmental destruction and harm. Commonly, the black box is painted orange with high quality lead paint. Lead is an environmental polluter, if the black box is not located the paint effects may affect the environment. Likewise, the lead effects may poison the waters around where it is and lead to death of aquatic species such as fish (Walker, 2002).
Mainly, the black box powering battery runs for thirty days. If by chance it’s not located and it spends years under the waters, the metal may rust and disintegrate producing harm to the environment around. In addition, the metals used in making the black box are susceptible to rusting if put under lasting conditions for so long. If the black box is not traced, the metals may begin rusting offering harm to the environment around the place. Furthermore, the battery used in the black box is a lithium ion battery, it the black box is not located the battery may begin producing radiation to the environment condition that may cause harm.
On an indirect way, black box has impacted positively on environmental conservation. It has made air travel more convenient for many. It has led to an improvement of the tourism industry. The tourism industry is fighting in ensuring nature and environmental conservation. Having the black box in place, ensure safety of the passengers and the aircraft is monitored easily. Lastly, it has promoted and use of the airplane more than use of ship. This is because many people can trust aircraft than ship. In so doing, the pollution produced by combustion in the ship is lowered since few vessels are used. It has influenced control of environmental pollution indirectly. In conclusion, the black box technology has been very crucial in both promoting and defending the environment from harm. Though, if it’s not detected within a set period, it may have negative impacts on the environment around it (Bibel, 2008).
Economic Effects
A country can either gain or loss from the black box technology. It has both the negative and positive economic effects. For instance, it very expensive to put in place a black box in one plane. It calls for financial dedication to achieve that goal. In most cases, black box increases the economic growth of a given country as it earns many revenues by promoting the air transport.
On a positive note, black box production promotes growth of industries manufacturing the device. This helps in promoting economic growth of a given business and a larger scope promote the economic growth of a given a country. In most cases, the manufacturer company of the black box pays revenues to the state that promotes economic growth (Bibel, 2008). To make the device requires high trained engineers, this means that the manufacturer of the device requires employment of high professional engineers. Employment of individuals ensures that the sindividuals will pay taxes to the state. Such taxes and revenues earned from the black box production business promotes growth and development of the nation’s economic status. Variously, individuals such as engineers in the production business are uplifted economically (MacPherson, 2008).
Globally, air transport has promoted the growth of trade between countries. In essence, the main contributor of the success of air transport is a black box. Indirectly, it has promoted positive impact on the economy by uplifting and making happen for traders from different locations worldwide. Countries are gaining revenue from inter-nation trade that is made possible and efficient by air transport.
Tourism and world travel companies are gaining much from the black box. Black box has made it possible for easy transportation of tourism from one country to another. Tourism industry has transformed and led to the building of hotels and parks that help in gaining revenue for the countries. The revenue gained from the hotels are very useful in building the economy of a given country (Bibel, 2008).
In most case, agriculture has been the main building block for the economy of many countries. Air transport has boosted agriculture. It has facilitated transport of perishable goods such as flowers. Nations are gaining revenue from flower trade; air transport is making it easy and cost effective since its fast and efficient in transporting perishable products. Revenue earned both from import and exports are helping countries build on their economy (MacPherson, 2008).
Commercial aircrafts that transport passengers from one location to another are making it easy for the countries involved gaining revenue. This has promoted economic stability and growth in the given countries. Lastly, presence of the black box in aircrafts has made it possible for the air industry to grow creating jobs for pilots, rescue team and hostess. This makes sure that the economy of the country is build and supported by these groups of people. The revenues and taxes paid by the employees is very crucial in effecting the nation’s economy positively (Rosenberg, 1994).
Though, if the black box does not work appropriately the plane may crash leading to loss to the country involve. In the case of a crash, the country loses massively as it losses people it earns revenue from, loss of goods transported and loss of funds used in manufacture and purchase of the aircraft. Maintenance of the aircrafts and servicing of the black box when needs arise calls for much expenditure from the country budget. In so doing, it drags the nation’s financial platform backwards (MacPherson, 2008).
Conclusion
In conclusion, presence of the black box technology, in an aircraft has significant impacts on both the environment and economy. Though, it evident that the negative effects are outdone by the positive impacts. The technology is very high in building the nation’s economy as a whole.
