Introduction
The law designed and implemented in any society is relevant in ensuring unchanging application of cultural values and civic cultures that create a democratic society. It is imperative to solve the issues brought about by a dystopic society that is limited in efforts to prevent actions that could interfere with sustainability of future generations. Children of Men depicts the consequences of a society incapable of establishing equality and flexible obedience to the rule of law that is essential for a democratic society. Uniform laws are the pillars that make people respectful and obedient to the rule of law ensuring the legal infrastructure is able to establish positive cultural attitudes needed to bring about social, economic and political changes. It is imperative that everyone in the society is committed to advocating for the survival of the earth’s population to restore the hope of the future generations finding a place conducive to sustain them. Living in a chaotic world endangers everyone in the society such that people tend to live in fear. The fact that most governments are unwilling to accomoadte immigrants by imposing oppressive immigrant laws on refugees means that some human races are at risk of extinction from effects of discrimination. Restoring a civilized state across the globe is therefore important since it is appropriate that everyone learns to protect their fellows in ways that express mutual love. Threats to existence of mankind has led to situations where the women fear giving birth considering the hostility their children will be subjected to. No one wants the feeling of their children suffering in future from hostility expressed by governement restrictions and forces deployed to ensure immigrants are detained in camps that are unsuitable to be used as human shelters.
Social Issues Depicted by Children of Men
Human actions continue to threaten existence of man as civilization seems to be under threat from undesirable effects of human behavior. Violations of law have led to situations where people run away from their countries of origin fearing for their lives due to civil and political unrests that have led to disruptions of the society. Children of Men is aimed at restoring the faith and hope among people such that in the end, it is still possible to achieve a society liberated from events that disrupt human relations and wellbeing. By reading Children of Men, it is likely that readers will be able to have a deeper understanding of the world and the circumstances that limit unity among people of different cultures, religions or political affiliations. The book leaves people with the clear reflection of the world they live in which then makes them develop critical thinking on the personal and group approaches that can be taken to restore a society capable of meeting the needs and expiations of the future generations. Infertility in the book Children of Men is not only depicted as inability to have children but loss of hope and reason for existence. This implies that in the end, the only feelings and attitudes left among people are ones that depict despair such that there is nothing of value to be offered by the world.
Incidences of immigrants denied accommodation in foreign nations by being rounded up in cages waiting deportation presents the picture of the extent to which man has reached in denying others their rights to life. The society has lost control of its environment with incidences of civil wars that cause fear for everyone in the society. The world has, therefore, lost its meaning and is completely in chaos with incidences of medical malpractices, political instabilities, fatal fertility drugs and terrorism attracting the global attention daily. Even the most democratic nations have embraced attitudes that disrupt civic rights of individuals. Governments have devised unethical practices in controlling population growth such that in the end, the nations tend to have negative population growth that coincides with the ideas addressed by Children of Men. In the article, the future generation needs to find a place where the law is focused on improving socio-economic and political welfare of the masses by governing behavior of individual and groups in the society. The world has to be assured of a future and avoid incidences where the society is unable to produce.
Failure to reproduce means that there will be no generation to sustain the world in the future such that the world becomes a place devoid of interactions between man and natural resources that has over the years made significant impact across the globe. Threats to human existence need to be countered by efforts to restore hope that in turn reduces the chances of extinctions of the human race. Children dying at a young is worrying since it means that the ability to sustain the future through fertility is reduced. Women becoming infertile and failure to give births lead to extinctions with immigrants denied the opportunity to settle in foreign nations as they would have wished. The plight of the immigrants and asylum seekers could be addressed by the need for liberation of law that aims at putting all humans at the same level.
Children of Men therefore create the need for changes in the society that would see formation of new communities to restore desirable values among groups in the society. New and shared values could only be created through designing and implementing laws that govern behavior of individuals and groups in the society. Laws need to be focused on creating equality such that outsiders could be accommodated with regulations on the acceptable behavior from everyone regardless of their status. The human race has to be its own savior through transformational rules that generate a pluralistic and collective approach to saving the world from destruction. From the ‘Magazine of Fantasy’, the need for law enforcement that sees everyone as equal is emphasized since it is only through having shared values and beliefs that human beings are able to cease from actions that put the lives of others in danger. Laws need to be focused on the need for equality with an extra force given the mandate to ensure that everyone complies with the regulations and that everyone learns to appreciate the contribution made by their peers in promoting a society capable of protecting future generations.
The future generations’ success is dependent on the actions of the current generation such that in the event where the young ones of the current world acquire destructive traits, it is unlikely that the world will be a better place in future. Incidences of unrests are likely to be the eventual outcomes in future thereby limiting socio-economic welfare of the people. The need for equality should not only be enforced through social means but by legal actions where an enforcer is mandated with the role of designing and implementing laws in the society. This implies that laws need to be enforced by an extra force to be sure that everyone will comply with the laws and that everyone is aware of the sanctions they could face in case there are violations of the laws enforced. The insights brought forward by ‘Magazine of Fantasy’ could be expanded by relying on ‘The Primacy of society and the features of law and development’ by Tamanaha that still emphasizes on the need for enforcement of law in the society. The best way to enforce laws in the society is by ensuring uniformity such that the law is not discriminative on the basis of political power or social-economic status of individuals or group.
Law enforcers need to take into account the fact that cultural differences should not be barriers to uniform application of law. It is wise for governments to consider giving immigrants an opoortuntity to settle in the foreign nations and give them equal opportunities as the locals. The fact that oppressive laws forbid individuals in the society from giving birth raise the question of the extent to which human rights are violated. The laws enforced need to take into account that voices of children are key to promoting the welfare of the society since it is through the voices that everyone is aware of their responsibility to improve the current state of the world to suit the needs of future generations. As witnesd in the theme of Children of Men, laws enforced need to give hope and faith to everyone in the society regardless of their orign, religion or cultural affilaitions. Law defines human behavior and makes people desist from behavior that could have detrimental effects to the development of the society. The rules established are therefore aimed at protecting the society from extinction of the moral values that need to be followed to ensure the future generations find a place ideal for their upbringing. However, Tamanaha argued that the rule of law is not forever applied in its substantive form. Failure of law has led to disruption in the social, political and economic system that have contributed to the negative events witnessed in the modern society. Modern society realize the need for bureaucratic government apparatus, capitalist market systems, universally applied legal systems and democratic political systems in efforts to ensure that everything in the society is in order. Law enforcement authorities need to provide the legal frameworks that binds everyone with the capacity to bring desirable changes in social, political and economic aspects. The laws enforced need to create a legal culture where individuals and groups adopt the values of obedience to law and respect for law such that there are consequences for failure to comply with the legal requirements. A liberal legal system is important to enhance a civic culture that leads to a democratic society devoid of violations of the freedom of individuals interacting in the society. With billions living in poverty and other living above the poverty level, it is imperative that economic development be based on a legal culture that identifies the need for hard work, education and discipline among individuals such that in the end, it is possible to close the gap between the wealthy and the underprivileged.
Inability of people to follow the rules and regulations implemented leads to establishment of inequalities with rigid obedience to authority such that adverse effects are unlikely to be reduced in the society. Individuals need to understand that the rule of law ought not to be something that is beyond the culture of the populace but the law is a culture that acknowledges the respect for law and the need to have civic culture essential to promote desirable world that accommodates the needs and expectations of the future generations. The evolvement of the law in the society needs to be based on the discipline of the people and their ability to create a culture based on establishing a standard rule of law. Law enforcers need to be able to maintain the rules and enhance uniform applications of the rules among the people governed by the rules.
In spite of the cultural differences and the need to have personal freedom, individuals and groups need to be aware of the existence of law and be able to follow the statutes to the latter. In some cases, people may not be ready to embrace the laws identified but they have no option but to accept the fact that the laws are made for the common interest of everyone to ensure there is a democratic society devoid of inequalities that have over the years been linked to destructive attitudes and actions of people. There is relevance in the establishment of law which affects the society. The connection between dystopia and law comes through the reality of doing what is required whether it is in the future or currently and the need to have uniform attitudes on the laws enforced. The law is meant to govern the behavior of individuals in different parts of the globe brought about by dystopia.
The relation of the law and dystopia is strengthened by the ability of the law to direct the present and future generations through application of identical rules. Therefore, Children of Men is relevant to the research as it highlights the stipulations of the law, its failures and the need to follow it in order to achieve a similar identity for the people. The concept of dystopia is prevalent in the modern society where there undesirable situations that create the need for changes in human actions through enforcement of laws. Adverse events in the society puts the future generations at risk considering the fact that there are increasing cases of dehumanization and human disasters that continue to put the ecosystem in the danger of extinctions. Dystopia has manifested itself through events brought about by ethnicity, religion, technology, politics and economics. Factors identified have implications on the well-being of the society such that if left unaddressed could lead to severe consequences.
In most cases, individuals in the upper end classes tend to create environment that is unfavorable and oppressive to the low class groups such that in the end, measures could be taken to suppress existence of the minorities. There is need for individuals to realize that obedience and respect for law necessary to enhance cultural attitudes that are key to social, economic and political development. Economic development in this case thrives in the cultures that are disciplined and identify the role played by liberal and uniform legal systems in promoting democracy. Dystopia directs people in their activities such that it is possible for individuals and groups to restructure their ways and develop practices that aim at restoring a peaceful society. Rules to be followed need to be uniform since it is only through standard rules that people are able and willing to follow the rules and relate in ways that create a desirable society.
Conclusion
The law designed and implemented in a society is relevant in ensuring that there is unchanging application of cultural values and civic cultures that create a democratic society. There is need to solve the issues brought about by a dystopic society that is limited in efforts to prevent actions that could interfere with sustainability of future generations. Children of Men shows a true reflection of what happens in the society such that human activities could lead to destruction of the ecosystem in the long run. Liberal legal systems need to be enforced to create a legal culture essential to establishing a democratic society. A standard rule of law is important since it applies to everyone regardless of the economic and political status of individuals. Individuals and groups need to respect and be obedient to laws that have been enforced to govern the behavior of everyone in the society.
