The diagnostic model
An effective diagnostic model evaluates and analyses the crucial data of the company in order to assist the clients understand their company’s opportunities of improvements, weaknesses, and strengths to comprehend a targeted intervention and measurement plan (Van, 1991. p. 159). For an organization to better improve its performance and employee development, the Organizational Development (OD) practitioner must be well conversant with the different diagnosis models to choose given the organization’s culture, objectives, and resources.
In this case, the best model to measure and identify the important aspects of the two organizations is the 6-box model. This model is very popular and easy to apply, this model analyses the organization based on its six basic factors of an organization: the structure, the rewards, the organization’s strategy, helpful mechanism, internal relationships, and leadership (Tanachart & Islam, 2010, p. 47).
An organization should focus on these six elements in order to diagnose their organization. Under each dimension of this model, specific questions are asked. The Weisboard’s six-box model majorly focuses on areas of dissatisfaction as the initial point in diagnosing the organization. It establishes the organizational output in which both the internal producers and external customers are discontented. The next step after identifying the organizational output, in which the producers and customers are dissatisfied, is to find out the causes of dissatisfaction by utilizing the six elements of the model. This model postulates that the internal producers are the key determiners in resolving the areas of dissatisfaction (Jones, 2006, p.200).
Analysis of the chosen companies using the 6-box model
In order create an analysis of where the two chosen companies are today; this paper will give attention to the six major components of the six-box model.
Bon Secour Health center Analysis
Bon Secour is a catholic health system funded by Bon Secour ministries. This health care institution offers acute care services, psychiatric services, and home care and hospice services. Under the chosen model, the following components are considered.
Purpose- the main purpose of this healthcare center is to offer healthcare services and help those in need, particularly the deprived, and the weak. The organization has committed itself to provide the health services and entirety as part of their remedial ministry of Jesus Christ and catholic community.
Structure- this organization has created a working relationship whereby all workers are treated equally and fairly. The leadership style in this organization is the one that is build in strong adherence to Christian moral values.
Relationships- the organization practices a leadership service that encompasses trust and the spirit of the Bon Secours. The organization promotes and encourages leadership promotion, the organization endorses a shared leadership style that encourages people to work together to achieve common goals and objectives as set by the company. The company has developed good and beneficial working relationships with providers, payers, and suppliers with preference to those who have similar mission to theirs. They work in partnership with these groups of people in a manner that they will both achieve their goals concurrently. Notably, considering that this is a healthcare organization, many ethical decisions are made, in making these decisions, the company draws its judgment from just Christian tradition while putting into consideration other religions.
Rewards- the organization is honored as a progressive employer. The honors to the company means that the organization is helpfully affecting the employment levels and the people they serve. The company has been recognized for being an organization with conducive working environment concerning its employee’s welfare.
Leadership- the company promotes a leadership approach of a servant leader style. The leadership style in this company is the one build on religious values and dignity. The company encourages a shared leadership that involves people working towards achieving a certain common goal.
Helpful mechanisms- in order to run its operations at ease, the organization has adopted the use of Enterprise Technology System (EIS), this system is in charge of the technical infrastructure within healthcare system, and it is responsible for running and implementing the day-day technical operations.
Sentara Analysis
Sentara is a healthcare institution that is committed in providing medical services both to adults and to the children (Smith, 2006, p. 108). The organization provides a range of quality care services to its patients through the dedicated medical professionals in the company. The company has grown extending its services throughout North Carolina and Virginia.
Purpose- Sentara is a nonprofit organization that aims at providing and improving the everyday health, the company aims at extending its medical services to many regions. This healthcare institution serves to provide help to chronic medical conditions and those in high need for emergency medical attention. The organization serves to give back to the society as a means of fulfilling a promise.
Structure- the working structure in this organization is the one where people are assigned explicit tasks, the employees work mutually in an effort to achieve a common goal that is to give back to the society. The subordinates and their seniors correlate well in their operations; they practice a shared leadership style.
Relationship- the organization has committed itself in establishing partnership with the community. The company has established good relationships with other hospitals within Virginia by generously sharing their resources with them. Other than offering treatment services to its patients, the hospital has extended its services and it now assist individuals manage their health. This has helped the organization correlate well with its clients.
Rewards- since its establishment, the company have received a number of awards. Sentara has been consistently ranked among the top 50 according to (U.S News & World Report’s). This year, the organization’s roads earned an honor; the company was also honored for delivering quality and safe services to patients. These among other rewards attributes that the company is working towards achieving its objectives.
Leadership- since its establishment, the company has been working to improve medical services. The institution through its leadership has developed its reputation; Sentara has dedicated its efforts to provide superior medical care through well-coordinated and integrated services and operations.
Helpful mechanisms- the company fully incorporates the use of technology wise mechanics such as Sentara eCare®, the technical recording system in the organization gives the doctors instant access to health information through a secured network in the organization. The efficient medical records enable an easy communication between physicians easing the work within the hospital.
SWOT analysis of the two companies.
Sentara SWOT analysis
Strengths- the company is an integrated healthcare institution that offers health and hospice, air ambulance, physical therapy and rehabilitation, heart and cancer care. The organization participates in both international and local medical research. The healthcare center also offers explicit and award winning coverage plans.
Weakness- it is becoming hard for the institution to establish curative measures to some complicated diseases. Other their weakness to solve some complex medical ailments, the company has not been in a well-strategized position to cope with the high number of patients who are in need for medical attention.
Opportunities- the institution focus at leveraging its care hospitals in order to service its patients against life threatening ailments. Other than improving its services, the organization aims improving its medical services by collaborating with other institutions to allow the exchange of managerial techniques and medical services.
Threats- there have been an increased demand for medical services from the community. This poses a huge thereat to the hospital it that it has to try all way possible to curb with the needs of the demanding population. The facilities in the hospital need to be frequently replaced to avoid any risks in its operation. This poses a huge threat on the financial stability of the organization.
Bon Secour SWOT analysis
Strengths- this non-profit organization aims at providing unified management, skilled medical care for all. The organization offers services such as nursing care, acute care, assisted living services; hospice the organization carries its operations in seven states. The organization has high regards to the poor and receives funding from well-wishers and the catholic community. It has an excellent and admirable ethical stance.
Weaknesses- extending its services to various areas have become a hard task due to the financial constraints. Provision of free medical services may affect the quality of medication given to such patients.
Opportunities- the focus and strategy of this organization is to provide high quality service and care for its patients. It also targets at expanding its operations globally. It aims at maintaining its partnership with agreements to enhance its services.
Threats- threats to this organization are majorly inclined to finances. The organization depends more on funding, it is deemed to fall if it does not look for a more reliable sources of funding. Another threat that might affect the operations in this institution is the high need modern equipment to cure complicated diseases.
Potential areas of resistance and the possible actions to minimize these effects
Recommendations
Arguably, for every healthcare institution to be successful, it is recommendable for them to adopt effective medical equipments in order to offer medical services hastily. In addition, the organization should train its personnel to gain both ethically and knowledge wise. It is therefore recommendable for these two to integrate and adopt the new medical equipments.
