FRED HUTCHINSON: A CANCER RESOURCE AND RESEARCH CENTER
Fred Hutchinson’s mission is to eliminate cancer and its related conditions as causative factors for human death and suffering. This Center carries out high standard research so as to improve the treatment and prevention of cancer and other related conditions. The Center intends to achieve this through the following core values: respect, innovation, scientific excellence and openness.
Fred Hutchinson’s vision is to take part in the creation of a future where researchers identify the causative factors of cancer; a future where every person employs a cancer prevention strategy and where with a simple test, cancer can be detected at the earliest of stages. A future where doctors deliver personalized and effective care; this is integral in the treatment of cancer as it helps mitigate the condition’s side effects. It is essential to highlight that researchers at the Center believe they are about to achieve this vision as a result of 30 years of high standard research.
I navigated to the career page on the Center’s website and found a job for a research technician. This post supports the mission statement as the Center is founded on research, which the job works to help achieve. A research technician has the responsibility of ensuring that all studies carried out by the Center are based on ethical clinical research. The post also supports the Center’s vision as it highlights the need for continued research in order to achieve a future where cancer is quickly diagnosed and treated (Staffing Presentation, 2013). As highlighted in the vision statement section, it is as a result of research, through the efforts of individual employees such as research technicians, that the Center has managed to achieve its remarkable breakthroughs. This is because it is essential that the human resource team is aligned with what an organization seeks to achieve (Scott, Jaffe & Tobe, 1993).
