Introduction
One cannot talk about the death of Martin Luther King Jnr. and President John F. Kennedy without mentioning the word gun. The question is whether people should be allowed to own personal guns or not. The mention of the word gun and its accessibility has always drawn varied arguments from people. In America, for instance, gun control politics dates back to the 18th century. As such, the debate on gun control has from time to time attracted various opinions from various authors and individuals. Some people argue against the liberty to possess guns whereas others argue for the right to possess a gun. This paper seeks to evaluate Gun Control which is a book written by Kekla Magoon. In 2010, Kekla Magoon wrote a book called Gun Control. This book has a total of ten chapters that relate to the issue of gun control in general. Nonetheless, this paper will only focus on chapter one which talks about the gun control debate. While writing this book, Kekla Magoon intended to capture the attention of all the citizens of the United States in America. This is because it is in the U.S.A. that the issue of gun control has been debated over and again with a majority of the citizens opposing any step towards controlling the possession of guns. Moreover, Kekla Magoon`s book on Gun Control seeks to educate the public at large on the essence of controlling access to guns. It also discusses the arguments against and the arguments for gun control. Nonetheless, the question at hand is whether gun control should be imposed or not as asserted by Kekla Magoon.
Main Argument
Kekla Magoon approaches the issue of gun control objectively and without bias. This is because he does not take either side. He presents both arguments for and against gun control with an open mind. As such, I can attest that Kekla Magoon is not bias, but objective. In the first paragraph, Kekla Magoon educates his audience by mentioning the significance of gun control. Additionally, he also enlightens his audience on the feelings of the gun control opponents. Further, he goes ahead to discuss the arguments in favour and against gun control in chapters six and seven respectively. Therefore, he employs an objective approach throughout his work.
Sources Credibility, Accuracy, Reliability, and Accuracy
Kekla Magoon uses various sources in his discussion about gun control. These include past incidences such as the attempted assassination of President Reagan and the United States of America`s Constitution. Additionally, Kekla Magoon draws his evidence from the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights of the U.S.A. was written by people referred to as the founding fathers. Among other rights, citizens were allowed to own arms in order to defend themselves in case of any attack. Nevertheless, not so many individuals owned guns during that time since the U.S government had not established a gun manufacturing company. As such, Kekla Magoon employed reliable and credible sources of information. Moreover, Kekla Magoon has covers the topic of gun control immensely, therefore, giving more insight to his audience. This is because he first starts by giving a brief history of gun control regulations and lastly discusses the current gun control measures. Additionally, Kekla employs the use of secondary data and qualitatively analyses his findings.
Alternative Source
Robert Spitzer also talks about gun control in his book called A Documentary and Reference Guide. In his book, Robert Spitzer enlightens his authors on the debate about gun control. He draws his arguments from various documents including The Virginia Bill of Rights, The Federalists Paper, and The British Bill of Rights. Just like Kekla Magoon, Robert Spitzer also uses the U.S constitution pertaining to militia to elaborate on gun control. Therefore, sources used by Robert Spitzer can act as alternative sources of information on the issue of gun control. This is because all the sources used by both Kekla Magoon and Robert Spitzer provide related data.
Conclusion
Kekla Magoon`s book is very relevant since it discusses various issues pertaining to gun control. As such, I can incorporate some of his claims such as the activities of the National Rifles Association and its attempt to do away with the Brady Law. Additionally, Kekla`s book is useful to my essay since it focuses on both arguments for and against gun control.
