Introduction
A hybrid car is a new innovation in the automotive industry which refers to a vehicle that combines a conventional fuel engine system with a rechargeable energy storage system to move the vehicle (Hantula &Debra, 10) this type of vehicle is developed with a sole aim of attaining a more efficient fuel mileage while causing less environmental damage (Hantula &Debra, 10). Over the past decade, there were hardly any hybrid cars in most societies. The situation has however changed in present day where shopping for these kind of vehicles entail much more than just making a choice of their colors. This indicates an increase in awareness as well as the usage of hybrid cars today. Consequently, the market for hybrid cars is considered one of the quickest growing sectors of the automotive industry in today’s automotive market, with a desirable annual growth rate (Juettner, 7). The Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid vehicles reckon for over half of all hybrid cars sold in the United States of American market today (Juettner, 8). Nonetheless, other magnificent manufactures like Lexus, Mercedes and BMW have launched very smart hybrid versions of their opulent cars as well (Juettner, 8). The high demand of these cars in the automotive industry therefore raises questions as to why hybrid cars should be purchased. This paper therefore explores on the reasons why hybrid cars should be purchased.
Initially, hybrid cars should be purchased because of their environmental sensitivity and low consumption rates especially when compared to any other type of vehicles available today (Anderson, Curtis & Judy, 108). In present day, there have been emergent debates on global warming and the concern of limited oil reserves across the globe. Consequently, this has born a serious need for people to change their ways of life, especially their consumption activities and relations to the environment. Notably, many people are trying to limit their energy consumption rates as well as decrease the quantity of by-products that are caused by their consumption activities to enhance sustainability. Hybrid cars should therefore be purchased because they are deemed essential in achieving these objectives in modern society. This especially applies to consumers who are sensitive to environmental protection, conservation and sustainability. The hybrid cars make the achievement of such objectives possible in a number of ways. First, hybrid cars assist in reducing green house gas emissions by close to one third compared to regular cars (Anderson, Curtis & Judy, 109). This follows their lower gas consumption when compared to other regular cars. Consequently, unlike a regular car user, a driver of a hybrid car can get forty or more miles per gallon of gas depending on the type of hybrid car he is using (Anderson, Curtis & Judy, 110). Additionally, hybrid cars should be purchased because they pollute lesser fumes and cause lesser damage to the environment. Hybrid electric cars for instance, produce zero percent emissions when in electric mode or at stoplights (Anderson, Curtis & Judy, 110). Further, these cars when compared to regular cars produce smaller amounts of smog that are released to the environment hence encouraging their purchase. Additionally, hybrid cars cause lesser noise pollution when compared to regular cars, hence are more environmental friendly. In this case therefore, hybrid cars should be purchased to enhance environmental sustainability and protect the future generation from environmental hazards.
The Second reason as to why hybrid cars should be purchased is the cost benefits that come with owning these cars (Kaiser, 216). The cost of living in most contemporary societies has risen compared to what was experienced in the initial decades. Similarly, people ought to be more economical in their daily expenditures including what they incur in operating and maintaining their vehicles. Consequently, hybrid cars are ideal in making cost savings and therefore should be considered for purchases. Initially, these cars should be purchased because they have a lower fuel cost compared to regular cars (Kaiser, 220). According to the Fuel Economy Organization, the Toyota Prius is the most fuel efficient vehicle in the hybrid market today, getting almost 50 MPG (Kaiser, 220). Similarly, most hybrid cars have an average fuel cost below $1,400 per year (Kaiser, 220). Consequently, these cars when compared to the regular cars can save a considerable amount of dollars annually in fuel costs. Additionally, hybrid car should be purchased because their owners incur cheaper car insurance costs as well as better insurance services from the auto insurance companies (Kaiser, 221). This is because most insurance companies today offer special incentives and discounts particularly to hybrid car owners with the intention of encouraging the ownership of these cost effective cars. Furthermore, people should consider purchasing hybrid cars because their owners have an easier access to tax incentives in a number of states when compared to users of regular vehicles. Some purchasers of hybrid cars for instance, qualify for income tax credits depending on the states they buy their cars from. Besides, these cars should be purchased because mere owners of this type of vehicles can save one from paying for the HOV passes. Today, most states in America have come up with programs where possessors of hybrid cars obtain free HOV passes and even exceptional parking passes, a more reason to purchase a hybrid vehicle (Kaiser, 222). Lastly, it is remarkable that even the resale value of hybrid cars is considerably higher and has lesser sales taxes on them when compared to reselling a regular car, hence justifying why hybrid cars should be purchased (Kaiser, 222).
Conclusion
In summary, there are dissimilar positive reasons why hybrid vehicles should be purchased in present day. This corresponds to the high demand and thriving market of hybrid vehicles in contemporary society as opposed to what was evident in the previous decades. Most importantly, this type of vehicles is ideal and adapted to the needs of present society which is curbed with myriads of serious emerging issues. Notably, global warming, lesser fuel reserves and high cost of living experienced in contemporary society have intensified the need for purchasing hybrid cars which are well adapted to cope in such instances. Most importantly, this relates to the cost benefits that accompany the purchase and ownership of the hybrid vehicles. Specifically, owners of these cars when compared to owners of any other vehicles, incur lower fuel costs, cheaper insurance costs, easier access to tax incentives and free HOV passes. Additionally, hybrid cars are more environmental friendly with lower consumption rates. Precisely, they reduce green house gas emissions, pollute fewer fumes to the environment and cause less noise pollution. Because of the aforementioned reasons and benefits that accompany the ownership and usage of hybrid cars, they should therefore be purchased.
