Abstract
The purpose of the assignment is to look at the COP21 report, the main factor that led to the conference was the rising rate in the greenhouse effect due to the emission of toxic gases into the atmosphere. The assignment also looks at the key tenants of the COP21 initiative and lastly the significance of the Conference to the business world and the chosen industry that is the Toyota motor vehicle company. It focuses on the effect that the conference has had on the operations of this company and other businesses in the world. The company has agreed to adhere to the rules and policies then it is automatically subscribed to the access financing and incentives from the initiative and the general governing body of the initiative. This has made this company to enjoy a wide range of customer form the entire globe who welcomes the idea of the COP21.
Introduction
The economy of the world entire depends on the use of fossil fuels in the major industries. These fossil fuels have had the adverse effect on the environment. Many international bodies have tried to come up with ways in which the emission of gases to the atmosphere can be reduced; such have included the use of other environmental friendly machines used in industries and the transportation sector. The problem of the greenhouse effect has been witnessed, and if the trend of the emission of carbon dioxide gas continues then, the earth will experience the extremely negative effect on the greenhouse effect and climatic change (Cook, 2007). Scientists have given warning that the continued use emission of the carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere will result in the increase in the temperatures of the world. This might lead to diverse effects to sectors including agriculture and forestry. All these will have consequences to the human population. It is for these reasons that the international authorities had tried to hold conferences to come up with solutions that can help reduce the greenhouse effect (Casper, 2010).
The fossils fuels in the world have over the past years helped the world in several ways that have helped the word to develop, and industrials are thereby improving the standards of living of the people (Houghton & MyiLibrary, 2009). When these fossil fuels are used, the carbon dioxide that is emitted has some adverse effect on the environment around the world; this gas has had a greenhouse effect that in turn traps the heat in the surface of the planet. This heat may warm up and, in the long run, have some very dangerous effect on the people and the earth as a good (Archer, 2012). The world has over the past years tried to find an amicable solution to the problem of global warming and the greenhouse effect, but it has not found a solution that will favor every nation. The aim of the COP21 help in Paris is to find a way by which the emission of the gasses causing the greenhouse effect can be minimized.
This should be done in consensus among all the nations in the world, to help each nation in the globe to economically grow. Another aim of the COP21 is to help the nations that have been drastically affected by the greenhouse effect. In the period of 1980s, the scientists came up with a discovery that the ozone layer had a hole, there was an international agreement on how to deal with the problem. The agreement referred to as Montreal protocol. The agreement required the world as whole to stop the use of the gases that are destructive which could be causing the problem; now the hole is undergoing a healing process. To date, there has been the use of the gases around the world that are believed to be causing the greenhouse effect (Singer & Avery, 2007). The title was developed in the year 1992 in Rio, Brazil and its aim was to bring all the nations around the globe to handle the issues that had the negative impact on the environment and the climate change.
A convention was signed and came into practice in the year 1994 and has been embraced by 195 nations including the USA. The other conferences that have been held in the recent years include: COP3 held in Kyoto Japan in the year 1997 and COP15 held in Copenhagen Denmark. The year 2015 was to be the final process with the aim to come up with a solution that will favor all the nations of the world in the process of curbing the climatic change and the greenhouse effect. The road to the city of Paris began to in the New York when a group of climate activists came together. The group of activists had the main grievance of calling of all the global authorities to take measures to curb the rise in climatic change; this followed a remarkable climatic deal between China and USA that had been announced by the USA President Obama and the Chinese colleague Xi Jinping. The deal had given hope that maybe the world has taken the step in solving one of its biggest climatic challenges. Therefore, it is for these scientific and historical reasons that led to the 21st meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
The cop 21 Paris report was chaired also hosted by France, that is, the 21st conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (COP21). The outcome of the negotiations was an agreement to keep the global warming temperature below 2 degrees Celsius. This conference bought together over 40,000 participants from the governments, the civil societies, the UN agencies and the INGO`s bodies from all walks of the earth. The COP 21 initiative is a universal convection which acknowledged the existence and importance of protecting the anthropogenic climate change thus it issued the highly industrialized nations or rather economies. Outlined below are the key tenants of the COP21 initiative;
Denmark, The nation who did not result in the adoption of the Paris initiative. The other tenant of the Paris establishment is Durban. The Durban also established a platform for an enhanced action. This action was to bring all the nations together; that is both the developed and the developed countries.
Adding to the list of the tenants, Qatar is also a major tenant of the Paris initiative. This is also in line and agreement with the Doha conference in the year 2012. This led to the second commitment through the protocol of the Kyoto protocol which was signed by a majority of the industrialized nations. Lima, Peru and Poland as tenants also greatly contributed towards the progress towards COP21 in Paris, France. They also influenced the invitation of all nations to submit their Intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) with an aim to reduce the greenhouse gases
PART 3
Identify the significant implications of this initiative for business in an industry of your choosing.
One of the resolutions of the Paris conference on the climate change was to foster on the transparency of the nations. The chosen company for this discussion is the Toyota motor vehicle company. This new move to enhance the transparency system brings a common binding commitments for all the parties that are affiliated or the ones that are directly influenced by the policies. One of the implications to the TOYOTA company is that helps to enhance a healthy competition in the market with the firms of similar or substituting products. This is very significant for the company since it will help the firm to remain in the market despite the extra expenses that they have to incur in striving to keep up with the regulations are requirements.
Secondly, the implication of this initiative to the Toyota company is that is shall lead to the general expansion the market of the company. The market expansion comes because of the creation of new markets coming through the initiative. this comes as a result of a collaboration between different nations who come together and partner with the respective companies .in addition, the initiative also seemed to have given the company an indirect market advantage. This was done through the affiliated adverts and the general exposure to the world.
The third implication that this initiative did to the Toyota company is the increase in research and innovation of the company while trying to comply with the set of regulations and the guiding principles to the production of the motor vehicles. The design stages through to the fabrication stage of the motors must be thoroughly researched so that the carbon emission of the vehicles remain within the minimum range acceptable. This implies that the firm has to invest more time and resources on research on a variety of the designs of the motor vehicles that are environmentally friendly.
In addition to these, the implication of the Paris initiative to the Toyota motor vehicle company is that it gives the company an opportunity to enjoy and economy of scale and liquidity. This is because the company in agreeing to adhere to the rules and policies then it is automatically subscribed to the access financing and incentives from the initiative and the general governing body of the initiative.
However, it is not always a ride in the for the companies such as the Toyota to keep up with the changing trends in the global trade and the ever increasing tough economic times. The challenge the firm encounters is an increased cost of production due to the increase in the cost of raw materials. This makes the firm produce at a slightly higher market price making it also to sell its products at a higher market price. In the long run, the company also experiences a decline in the exportation of cars into new markets .it also decreases the net unit production hence reduces the production level of the company. This is a, major indicator in the decline or rather a decrease in the profit margins of the company.
Conclusion
In conclusion, looking at the general climatic condition of the earth, it is conclusive to say that the world has not been able to tackle the problem of the greenhouse effect adequately, and it must find a solution to reduce the rising percentage of carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere that brings about the greenhouse effect. The use of the COP21 can be said to be efficient since it aims at considering the opinion of the whole world through the representative from every nation and its decision to curb every nation contributes the greenhouse effect.
