Cardboard is a material used in the architectural department in the buildings as it is easily available, relatively cheap and available. Many past architects have been seen to use cardboard in their work, architects such as Shigeru Ban, in the Cathedral Christchurch. Cardboard can be improved by having it corrugated. By corrugating, this makes the cardboard to be easier to combine with other types of boards and this makes it a better quality.
The best types of glue to use with cardboard are polyvinyl acetate glue because this glue gives a very tight bond thus making it stronger when reinforced with it. The Kingdom Centre is an example of a geometric and a project since it is largely based on statistics and numbers with specific numbers of items such as entrances, and windows.
The kingdom Centre was designed by Scott Berry under the Ellerbe Becket firm. The building is found in Saudi Arabia, and is a skyscraper with 65 floors. It is built using steel and concrete and cardboard on the basement and a third of the lower floors where there is recycling of materials done. It also has fire proofing that was done by the Grace Construction Products. The Kingdom Centre is ranked as one of the top three tallest buildings in the world. The Centre has the model maker being Richard Tenguerian. It is ranked position 93 in the globe’s list of the world’s tallest buildings.
The construction of the Kingdom Centre begun in the year 1999 and ended in 2002, taking a total of three years to complete. The building belongs to a Prince Waleed bin Talal and it has a physical look of a bottle opener and occupies around 185000 sq. The Centre also goes by the name Al Mamklka Tower and it is of 992 feet, becoming the second building in height ranking in Saudi Arabia, and it also happens to be famous because it has a hole in it.
The Kingdom Centre has a floor that is only for women, meaning that no man has access to this part of the Centre and this is the third floor which has facilities like gums, shops and lounges and this is to make the women who travel to this Centre to feel safe within the Centre.
A Parabolic arch is one of the features that are found on the external part of the building, that is on the upper third of the tower and it has a sky bridge at the top, together with having a shopping mall and the Four Seasons Hotel. The Kingdom Centre has won various awards such as in 2002 where it got an award due to its design and also the award of being the best sky scraper in the world , which it won in 2003.The Centre is also very important since it is where the headquarters for the Kingdom Holding Company are located.
The Kingdom Centre is a building that is very famous for its unique design and tall height and for other features such as the use of different materials to build it and also for the different offices that it is home to and it also incorporates the use of cardboard in some of the parts of the building.
