In modern healthcare trends, health and technology are inseparable. Computers have formed the backbone of modern methods of treatment as well as information sources. Any health organization that does not aim at investing in offering services through technology will eventually become obsolete. The use of technology in the healthcare sector has increased the quality of healthcare as well as productivity. Technology has allowed the healthcare providers not only to operate at all times, but also reach the patients who are unable to access healthcare facilities readily.
Business Problem Statement
The number of cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy as their basic mode of treatment has increased. There are national guidelines that require that oncologists should record the discussed plans of chemotherapy treatment. The records require detailed medication dosing, intent of the therapy, the probable side effects, administration frequency, as well as the duration of the treatment. Such records can only be reviewed while the oncologists are prescribing the oral chemotherapy and during the assessment of medical adherence and side effects. Since only 30% of cancer patients adhere to oral chemotherapy procedures, Onco Tech intervenes to offer an electronic platform that will not only promote timely monitoring of a patient’s progress, but also ensure effective disease management (Davis & Oakley-Girvan, 2015).
The name of the company is Onco Tech that will on one hand trend in the technology industry and at the same time transform the ways in which cancer patients receive their treatments. Whereas much information is provided on the internet on cancer prescriptions, Onco Tech will be a platform where accredited physicians will interact with cancer patients one on one to ensure provision of updated information as well as offer the best treatment advice depending on the recorded patient history.
Brief Description of Proposed Solution
Onco Tech proposes to come up with a mobile application for both Android and iOS users. The mobile application will encourage users that have an oral chemotherapy prescription to remotely fill assessments for side effects, medical adherence, and symptoms forms as provided for in the national guidelines. The application will also provide a personalized response to the patients regarding their health status as well as deliver information to the assigned oncologists for real-time evaluation, management, and communication (Davis & Oakley-Girvan, 2015). In this project, we will form an alliance with the key stakeholders, patients, and the physician representatives. Healthcare organizations and organizations for national advocacy will also play a role in developing a patient-based and a clinical mobile application to ensure a wide scope for dissemination.
General Benefits It Will Provide the Organization
The general benefits cover both the patients and the healthcare organizations. Different patients from different backgrounds will be in a position to receive oral chemotherapy with a reliable medical intervention. The patients will use mobile applications either on their computers or smartphones. As such, the health organizations will have access to the weekly assessments of symptoms as well as patient medical adherence. With such consistent information, the healthcare providers could conduct data analyses for research purposes. The patients will also be able to access educational content from reputable international health organizations to help them cope with all the side effects from the chemotherapy treatment (Santarpia et al., 2016). Moreover, the oncologists will be encouraged to provide quality care amid the quickly evolving delivery system in the healthcare sector. Finally, since the mobile application is aimed at improving the quality of life, adherence to chemotherapy, and symptoms, the outpatient visits that compromise satisfaction of treatment will be reduced.
Audience to Whom You Are Presenting the Recommendations
The main target audience of Onco Tech are the healthcare organizations such as Center of Cancer Treatment, Cancer Research Institutes as well as Oncologist Associations in different parts of the world. Any healthcare institution that offers cancer treatment should also adopt the technology to ensure improved quality of service delivery as well as that of patient life. The patient burden is also reduced by doing away with outpatient visits.
