Introduction
This paper is an essay on the analysis of the appeal of an identity icon on various social groups like men and women, the queer and the straight. In light of this, it is important to recognize the fact that media icons more or less influence the societal behavior and this is also true for character formation for those who are still in their formative years. They try to copy the mannerisms and put up of those people they watch in movies. An exploration of the essence of this appeal is also sought, as are the issues about his life that are relevant to this study. The celebrity who is focused on in this essay is an acting icon who goes by the name Benicio Del Toro. Benicio Del Toro, a Puerto Rican, was bon 41 years ago. He has achieved great success in acting, and has been admired by many viewers for much including his sexual appeal (Mike, 2005).
A bit about his history-Benicio Del Toro was born in Puerto Rico, but they moved with their family to Mercersburg in Pennsylvania following the illness of their mum when he was nine. He studied a business course after his father piled enough pressure on him to do so. However, he decided to pursue an elective drama course, and decide it was the make or break thing for his life. Realizing that this was his true calling, he dropped from school and moved to Los Angeles to study with legends like Stella Adler (Hernandez and Brian, 2008).
Over time, Benicio earned increasing adoration among his viewers, and many of his fans consider his sexual appeal simply irresistible. In an attempt to analyze this appeal, it is important to begin by appreciating choice of roles and characters he represents. In many of the movies in which he acts, the plays dark and brooding- sometimes he is the villain, the spoilt one or a hapless drug slave. These roles put him on edge and since there is popular belief that the bad guys attract the attention of the girls, probably this contributes to the instance of their admiration.
For some reason, the adorers of such sort of role plays find something in his role part that makes them have emotional lingerie on them. In most cases, roles that expose extreme behaviors usually captivate viewers and win their admiration. Children usually emulate those characters, and try to live up the formulation of those that they see in the movies. Belicio, with his strong sexual appeal, commands a shape up of the lifestyles of the youthful and ‘the young at heart’.
Many women have reported being intrigued by his sex appeal. These include those people that he works with, like Suzanne Bier, who said that she finds him really hot. In a blog that sought to collect views about the actor in as far as his sex appeal is concerned, over seventy percent expressed admiration over his looks, his flirting mannerisms and his physique. Some of his enthusiasts even become sentimental over those who are critical of him.
In addition to the above, the looks are a dragnet to those who admire him. The man is tall, with average body build, and handsome. This physique should not be overlooked in an analysis of his character, because many women tend to be attracted by this aspect. Perhaps his intelligence contributes to the domino of his appeal. Many enthusiasts of his character say that he is highly intelligent as brought out in the roles. He acts out his roles with a show of creativity and intelligence.
In consideration of Benicio Del Toro’s case, it can be argued that the influence from the sexual appeal cannot be sustained. This is because fashions and likes keep changing and what is fashionable today may be a far cry of what the next generation will like or prefer. Additionally, new movie starts are rising, even superseding the influence of Benicio del Toro. In light of the fact that movie stars are just actors, his stage conduct cannot be relied on to give a lasting impression on the behavior of his enthusiasts. Appeal from most of the movie stars tends to wane when the stars retire from stage life.
The appeal of Benicio Del Toro is mostly on the straights. Blogs in which the viewers leave comments have exclusively comments pointing on bilateral appeal, as opposed to homosexual overtures. Whereas that may not be a conclusive way of determination of the covert undertones that may exist in terms of sexual appeal of this nature, considerations of other factors like his public conduct are silent on this.
In conclusion, there is need to appreciate that icons are a big influence on character formation of those who are developing identity. It is therefore important for them to receive proper guidance on those aspects that affect social life, and may lead to strongly negative influence. While it is not practicable to be able to shut mass media from the young ones to avoid unfavorable influence, it is the prerogative of those who are influential on the lives of the children to guide them properly and therefore avoid the chance of picking behaviors from characters who may not be representative of the realities in the society.
