Middle East is a region that covers the Western Side of Asia which has and remains to be a center of world affairs. Its history dates back in the ancient times and it has various contributions to the world we live in today. The region is associated with the origin of most religious groups in the world such as Mandaiesm, Islam, Druze, Bahai faith among many other religions. Generally, the Middle East is an arid place with a hot climate and despite the climatic conditions it is a big Agricultural contributor in the world (Sorenson, 2010, p.122). Most Agricultural inventions have originated from the Middle East since the days of Mesopotamia farming schemes in the ancient times.
This region has been a significant player in some of the policies that affect the world today. It has remained influential since ancient times with its impact on world affairs been felt over the years. The Arab nations make part of the Middle East region and their contribution nationally and internationally is to be reckoned with. In the recent past, we have witnessed some of the most dynamic end to some political eras which have changed the perception on leadership around the world (Anjoob, 1981, p.98). Such historical moments have had a great impact on leadership of most nations has people get to realize that they have the power to change bad governance.
All in all, the fact of the matter is that the Middle East is a region that is well known for its contribution in the matters that concern the entire world. In terms of economic development, the region remains to challenge many first world countries. Politically, the Middle East is a force that shapes every day to day politics of the land globally (Brown, 1984, p.213). The cultural diversity and religious affiliations also make part of the Middle East diversification. It has a number of policies that have been embraced globally by most nations. Therefore this essay will concentrate a lot on the policies and affairs of the Middle East and the role it plays as well in the affairs of the world.
The Middle East commonly referred to as the Arab nations is strategically located in a very good position with some of the biggest continents such as Africa, Europe and Asia. The similarities and opportunities have presented the region with a very good chance to thrive both politically and economically(Brown, 1984, p.280) . It benefits from a very rich history which has spanned for many a thousand years and this still remains to be its pillar of what makes the today’s present Middle East. The ancient contributions of its early people still shape the stability of its countries. Things like agricultural stability have been the backbone of its economy over the years.
The world has greatly borrowed a lot from this region in the sense that most countries use their agricultural policies and practices. Middle East has influenced most nations to invest on Agriculture for economic stability. Been able to feed its population without difficulties has ensured growth in population. Having a big regulated population has ensured the availability of man-power for boosting its industrial development. It has become clear that for an economy of any nation to stabilize, feeding its citizens effectively without difficulties is a plus. Therefore Middle East ancient large scale farming inventions have been modified for agricultural practices.
Judging from the information stated in the above paragraph, it becomes easier to understand how the Middle East has been in the affairs of the world since time immemorial. Some of the factors illustrated herein have had an immense impact in the entire world. Having a large population and been able to provide surplus supply of food to it needs a good planning. Therefore planning has been a policy in Middle East since ancient times, a policy that has remained relevant for many years. The world over has embraced this policy for economic stability and strategic growth. A proper plan ensures support of a country from the grass-root to steer it economically.
Middle East is a region best known for having a common language. This is a very rare case in most nations and regions in the world. There is increased oneness and cohesion among its people a factor that promotes peace and development. The common language has been a lifestyle for the people of the Arab world over the years (Sorenson, 2010, p.98). Development of this region has been boosted greatly by this common language. The population has the feeling of nationhood among them due to the fact that they can all communicate in a common language no matter their native countries. This has promoted trade since the ancient times to date which has steered development by a great deal. Despite some elements of colonialism in some parts of the region, this has not changed this common language. Usually, most colonial countries tried to make their language dominant in the states that they colonized but this region has remained to embrace a common language.
Looking at the region from a different angle, one is able to see the oneness in policy implementations of the region. The leaders of Middle East countries have been able to bring political changes in the region by taking this factor into account. For a leader to have the ability to convince the citizens, he/ she have to understand what brings them together. As for Middle East, they all understand one language not necessarily the native language but the language of oneness in leadership (Lencozski, 1998, p.134). Leadership as a policy has been founded on bringing the people together through uniting reasons other than divisive politics.
Therefore such a policy has been a crucial thing that most countries have been striving to achieve. Emulating the Middle East has a lot to do with its history over the years. It is a region that saw the light of the world earlier than most regions and therefore it has been an influential region in the world. In most cases, countries in the Middle East have been consulted in matters of development during some of the global summits held in different parts of the world. It is therefore easy to understand the contribution of the region in worldly affairs has been there since its development inception.
Moreover, the Middle East has a diverse cultural distribution. The fact that it is a large region made up of many countries makes it diverse in cultures and believes. Its people have been affiliated to different religious groups since ancient days which have generated different cultures. This means that there are bound to be differences in understanding and strong believes which at times may contribute to seclusion of some minority cultures over the dominant ones. However despite of such challenges some of the Arab countries have remained united despite of their cultures.
The Middle East is an Islam dominated region and their strong believes in Jihad or holy war has been one of the factors that have gotten the global attention. Some of its regions have been in constant wars over leadership and religious beliefs. Not many of its religious leaders that have supported today’s secular practices and beliefs. Those that believe strictly in Quran teachings have had difference with leaders who try to embrace the western styles of leadership and development. Such challenges have resulted to religious wars and political differences that have resulted to terrorist related practices.
Some of the countries from other parts of the world that have tried to intervene have been branded has enemies of these nations (Naggar, 1992, p.219). Therefore, in the recent past there have been increased wars in some regions of the Middle East. Illegal gangs have assumed leadership by taking control of some parts of these countries by employing terrorist tactics to scare anyone who tries to come their way. It is from such happenings that the world has had a particular perception on some Middle East countries. Terror attacks that have been made in some parts of the world have brought this region on the spot light in the recent years.
Challenges that come as a result of insecurity have made the world more aware of terrorism. This vice has been fought by many countries through sanctions in trade and other global affairs. The world has combined efforts to curb such happening something that was never there in the early days. Mostly, some of these wars have been motivated by the intention to control the mineral resources found in this region. Its abundance in some of the most valuable resources and minerals has caught the interest of many nation that want to benefit from such resources (Naggar, 1992, p.123). Therefore most superpower countries have had an hand in the political and governance affairs of the region to.
The Middle East is known for its immense deposits in oil. Oil is a very big economic booster in most countries. Therefore, the region has been a big supplier of this scarce resource to many parts of the world. However the greedy nature of leaders and the chance of having personal interest in these resources have resulted to conflicts (Korany, 2010, p.112). The cunning nature of most superpowers on the other hand has taken this a golden opportunity to manipulate governance and leadership by offering them protection (Naggar, 1992, p.145). Such actions have brought these regions into wars at the expense of their economies. The superpowers on the other hand have used as a chance to enrich themselves by controlling the flow of oil by the deployment of their forces.
Such moves have generated heated debate and criticism from different quarters of the world (Brown, 1984, p.213). The issue of constant wars through foreign policies of other powerful countries has turned out to cost the entire globe on security and economic hardships. Once the flow of important minerals like oil that most economies rely on has been interrupted this results to scarcity of the commodity and hence price increase. Therefore the world has experienced economic crises which have cost poor countries a great deal.
As its stated herein, the crisis of the Middle East such as wars and political uprising have had a great negative impact to the entire world. The region's contribution to the economies of most countries is quite significant and evident in this essay. Its natural riches have been steering the development of the world and once this is interrupted it results to worldly economic crises. Its therefore evident to see that the Middle East has and will always be involved either directly or indirectly in the affairs of the world.
