The implementation of school uniforms in schools is a burning question. Nowadays, there are schools that accept and don’t accept this policy. Many arguments can be given for both sides, however, the absence of school uniforms is the correct choice. Some argue that school uniforms lower expenses for parents, reduce bullying in schools and create a sense of unifications. However, this is not correct. When kids are allowed to dress as they want their parents save money, they develop their individuality and they learn to live in the real world.
Uniforms are an expensive luxury. It may seem that one needs to purchase them only in the first year and that covers it all, however, that is not completely true. A parent cannot just buy his son one pair of pants for all his school life. Even for one year, at least two or three pairs of pants are needed. Another point to consider is that these are special cloths and so they are often a lot more expensive. Families that are not used to buying expensive clothes or try to find sales, will not be able to afford sending their child to school. Moreover, apart from school both girls and boys need to have some kind of everyday clothes. They need to have something to wear when they go to other classes, when they spend time with their friends or just walk around the house. This means that the parents are not saving money as they still have to purchase a separate wardrobe for when the child is not in school. The child, on the other hand, may start disliking the uniforms as they will be binding him in a way.
Clothing is one of the easiest and clearest ways to express one’s individuality. A child goes to school to grow, develop and become more than a human being. A child goes to school to become a member of society, someone with his own idea, beliefs, hobbies and view on life. Uniform do unify but they also make everyone the same. The limit the amount of possible creativity. Children must be given the chance to think about what to wear to school. When they grow up, they will have to make the same choices.
In the end, uniforms are more expensive for parents; they limit the child’s individuality and do not prepare for the real world. What schools do need is a dress code. It allows children to be creative, does not hit the parent’s budget and does prepare kids for the future. However, a dress code must be present. Sometime girls and boys can get carried away with their style and that is why there must be some rules to make sure that all the students still look acceptable and appropriate.
