Research Question: Does a lack control over self and surroundings originate from a person’s adverse childhood environment?
Effects of a Childhood Environment
Sample population
The target population was a group of petty prisoners locked up in a local police station. They were caught for minor disturbances in public areas. Their actions provide a clear indication that they were unable to control some of their actions. This would provide a good avenue for the investigation of the research question. On the other hand, students from the University of California, Los Angeles, would be included in the research exercises as a comparison of children who did not grow up in adverse environments.
Hypothesis
The consistency of the prisoners was examined and compared to other people who did not behave in a similar manner. Those who did not have adverse childhood environment were disciplined people in the future and were on their way towards becoming successful people in the society. On the other hand, those that were exposed to adverse childhood environments were mainly characterized by bad behaviour and lack of control over their actions (Gould et al, 2011). This caused them to become caught on the wrong side of the law.
Variables
Independent variable
The growth environment the sample group was exposed to while they were children.
Dependent variable
The behaviour of the sample group as adults as a result of the environment they were exposed to while they were children.
Access
The researcher will employ the use of interview questions that will be conducted personally at the detention centre that has been identified. Questions will be asked during the interview sessions, and the answers will be filled in a questionnaire for further analysis.
