The use of illegal drugs is a developing issue that affects different communities each and every day. To eradicate the problem placed by this drugs people need to join hard and effectively fight against the use of illegal drugs. The society should also create awareness about the consequences of drug abuse and addiction. All parts of domestic and international communities need to integrate strengths to curb the drug abuse usage and effects to lead the world into a healthier situation.
With the help of essential statistics and facts that I will gather from extensive sources, I concluded that the drug addiction should be recognized as a disease. In addition, the existing of staggering number of addicted people in the society, who have inadequate or no access to medication shows how the issue is a big problem to the society. This habitual use of harmful drugs is a source of various social and health problems related with addiction. The user of these drugs is so much obsessive in sense that friends, family, work, exercise and love comes in the second place.
Sources review
The sources used to carry out the research about the drug abuse and addiction involves one primary source and three secondary sources. The primary source is an empirical study that is typically found in a scholarly article that presents an original research. The research is entitle ‘drug addiction’, submitted by various users and approved by English IV teacher, Mr. Frankie Santos. On the other hand, secondary sources are derived from comments and discussion about the original data. Secondary sources contain second hand information that helps in carrying out research and fully understanding the concept of drug abuse and addiction. The secondary sources involve books such as “Drugs, society, and human behavior”, Psychiatric Nursing: Biological and Behavioral Concepts, and Development of a rational scale to assess the harm of drugs of potential misuse.
A plan to collect information
Drug Abuse & Addiction project had a plan to collect information. Data collection helps to gather information for record and making informed decisions. The tools to collect information include surveys and route assessment that aims at collecting the information required. The data collection plan must ensure that it collects the major problem domains that are expected to be faced by the project. The data collection plan includes the following procedures;
i. The pre collection activity: - state about the goals, target data and the vision.
ii. Decision on what, how and when to measure the monitoring and evaluation indicators.
iii. The data collection: - direct interview and administration of questionnaires.
iv. Conduct a census or data survey to gather information about the project.
v. Collection of the baseline data on drug and substance abuse.
vi. Engage the drug addicts, screen them and detect the occurring disorders.
vii. Present findings: - this is done through data analysis and interpretation.
An overview of Challenges
Data gathering for interpretation to information possess a lot of threats. The drug and addiction research exposes one to a number of challenges. They include: methodology problems, technical complications, ethical standards, social context and lack of personal security. It is importance for a researcher to review on the challenges that may interfere with the procedures and activities of the project.
Methodology problems are the theories and the epistemological issues that alter or collect information that is not required. Technological problems are those that arise from the tools and the systems that are used by the researcher. Drug Abuse & Addiction project was faced by the ethical dilemmas from the section of individuals that participated in the project.
The social context includes social, political and economic environment that is present at the area where the research was being conducted. Lack of personal security is a major issue that was experienced when collecting the information. Exposure to some environments and people is hostile and some prefer to avoid being part of the part that is interviewed.
Conclusion
It comes to a conclusion that drug abuse and addiction is a social problem that results into unwanted effects to the users and people in the community. However, people should stop thinking that the drug addicts are morally challenged. The drug abuse develops to a disease that affects the brain, thus stopping a drug addict is not just an easy task, and it is not a matter of willpower. Since drug abuse can be treated all members of the society should join hands in helping the victims to recover and also come with a way to mitigate the problem of drug abuse and addiction.
