Rehabilitation of people from previous addictions or groups can be a huge task since it mainly lies in the concerned party. It is hard for one to make decisions for others if they feel at heart that they do not want to change. Despite these challenges, the government, and non-governmental agencies create programs that focus on looking for ways of rehabilitating most of these people. The ABC program aims to rehabilitate former convicts who were gang members though it proves quite a challenge. More than 70 percent of them tend to move back to their old ways. Some of the selling points of the ABC gang intervention program is provision of anger management classes, tattoo removal sessions, parenting classes and job training. Ideally, the program should be in a position to reduce the recidivism
Variables
Variables tend to measure the changes in an individual’s character against another, their environment or time (Laurel, 2003). There are different types of variables; dependent, moderator, independent, control and independent. Dependent variables tend to show the effect of changing independent variables when one uses new procedures and techniques. The two variables tend to affect each other, making them dependent on the individual’s results. However, independent variables change according to the modifications and presence of new variables. The dependent variable will be effective in the program evaluation, as it will test the theories on the formation of gangs.
Proposed Research Design
The research design tends to use the dependent and independent variables alongside the normal variables. The normal variables play the role of determining the distribution probability in relation to the sample mean. It is useful in instances where one uses a random sample from a population analysis distributed normally. The design will determine the effectiveness of tattoo removal and job training to the gangs and how it may reduce recidivism. The design strengths lie in its ability to conduct and utilize the analysis. However, its main weakness is bias and lack of credibility.
Sampling Techniques
The sampling methods considered in evaluation the gang members is cluster (Maxwell, 2012). It is effective in weighing in the cause and effect by using the independent and dependent variables. Apart from that, it will come in handy when reducing the variables and provision of feasibility results on whether the program might reduce the recidivism.
Proposed Methods
The research design will employ the quantitative method in its evaluation (Maxwell, 2012). The method uses statistical information to quantify it as well as help in the formulation of a hypothesis that will assist in understanding the true perspective of recidivism.
Proposed Timelines
The proposed timelines factor in several processes. The first process is the attendance of former gang members and their continued participation. The second process is to determine its effectiveness to the general perception of the community towards those that attend the session. The main concern would be to look at the gang members present in the community and how they treat those in the program. Hence, observation will be a key tool in the timeline as a way of collecting data. The other tool will be questionnaires as it helps in providing feedback from the attendees and the society.
Issues Relating To Validity and Reliability
The major issue on validity and reliability on an internal basis is the effectiveness of variables. Reliability relies on independent variables like unemployment, which act as the major cause of joining gangs. The external issues rely on validity and effectiveness of the processes as it affects the society. It would be pointless for those that attend the sessions to come out worse that they were at the beginning.
Personnel Required and Cost
The evaluation process will not require a large number of personnel. It will require psychiatrists and physicians, as they understand how to deal with such people. However, the sessions will require snacks and drinks as well as writing materials to record the events. The personnel can pitch camp within the local halls or set up a tent. Roughly, the process will require $2,000 to employ fully all its requirements and needs.
