Bullying is a common social vice that affects multiple races, ethnic groups, cultures, and socio-economic classes. As a sociological problem, bullying can sometimes be quite difficult to analyze because of the emotions it evokes. In order to successfully analyze bullying, there are a number of steps that need to be followed. The most important one I would use is to come up with research questions that seek to give the meaning of bullying. These questions will be guided by the premises of finding out the causes of bullying, its consequences, who the victims of bullying are, and who bullies are. Since bullying and its consequences are difficult concepts to comprehend, it is prudent for a researcher to find out what other people need to know about them.
The critical steps of this type of research that I have chosen would entail analysis of previous cases of bullying. This would call for thorough interaction with victims of bullying, bullies, and other people who interact with them on a frequent basis. From this interaction, I would develop questions that seem to be of most interest to people who would want to find out more information about bullying. My critical research steps would seek to answer why bullying is a serious social problem, what its causes are, who are the likely victims of bullying, and how can people reconcile with the consequences of bullying. This process simply involves reviewing and systematizing thoughts from authoritative sources in a manner that shows proper understanding of the concept of bullying.
In school, bullying is a common concept that may take various forms. The parties involved are usually involved in altercation with each other. Bullying may include threats, intimidation, sexual abuse, discrimination in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and spreading falsehoods about others. Those targeted by bullies are usually the ones considered small, weak, different, unique, or have a form of disability. School bullies usually engage in bullying because of the attention they derive from such actions which make them feel superior. To them, such attention usually comes with a prize in form of what they benefit from bullying others. The attention also give bullies close allies who work with them. This makes bullying a form of criminal deviance.
