In accordance my life history, I have always been a cool minded individual and avoided unnecessary conflicts since I started going to school. I developed an introverted personality, due to which I kept distance from people and did not engage in extreme social activities. It resulted in making me a quiet person and I became less prone towards expressing or sharing my feelings to people. My control over temperament ensured that I was not easily inclined towards becoming angry. My personality has remained same over the period of years as I have experienced such traits as far as I can remember.
After completing my graduation, I joined military, which changed my inclination towards people. It is true that I was not prone towards engaging in social gatherings but I used to trust people easily once I became acquainted with them. However, the competitive work environment in military and necessary surveillance training has made me less prone towards trusting people. Moreover, the experiences from the military and the closure to the criminal and threatening activities, in which people disregard morals and ethics, made me question the integrity of people and hence, effected my capability to trust people.
In the development of my personality, the role of nature is observed to be prominent. I have inherited my quiet nature and cool temperament from my father. The similarity in my personality and my father’s personality has been observed several time and hence, it is considered genetically acquired as part of the nature. On the contrary, the aspect of my personality that restricts me towards trusting people is considerably as a result of nurture. In this instance, my resistive personality towards trusting people is observed to be developed by the experiences from the external environment with an adequate passage of time (Myers, 2014).
The prevalence of bias is observed whenever the history of an individual is enlightened in order to acquire information about the past. The most prominent biasness is considered as the misattribution of the memory, in which the source of information is not recalled in an effective manner and hence, the consecutive knowledge remains in the memory. It hinders the effectiveness of the decisions based on the evidence or experience that is provided by that memory. Similarly, the prevalence of reminiscence bump also incorporates the biasness, in which the events and experiences are recalled from adolescents rather than any other period of life (Myers, 2014).
It makes the inclination of the individuals to consider certain life events from a specific phase of life rather than considering the events and experiences from all the phases of life. The biasness in memory is also caused by the source confusion, in which the knowledge or experience of information acquired from any secondary source is considered as a personal experience. In this instance, it is observed that the discussed life experiences about my life history, are usually based on the experiences from adolescents and hence, the prevalence of biasness is considered to be present in the effective interpretation of the experiences (Myers, 2014).
The scientific studies provide evidence with respect to the causal effect of the events, which eventually makes the results reliable. The prevalence of scientific studies ensures the standardization of research methodology and provides statistical evidence in order to accept or reject the claims. These results provide the adequate confidence interval, error rate and reliability extent, which provides the researcher with an adequate idea about the reliability, accuracy and validity of the results. In this manner, the results of scientific studies do not possess the prevalence of personal biasness, which eventually makes the psychologists and researchers to consider these results consistent and reliable (Myers, 2014).
On the contrary, the anecdotes are developed on the basis of personal experiences and are considered highly reliable because they do not provide any evidence for the reoccurrence of the notion that is provided in the anecdote. The anecdotes are considered as the untested claims made by the individuals on the basis of observations and hence, they lack empirical evidence. The psychological concepts are based on the empirical evidence and theory due to which their prevalence is widely accepted in the field of psychology. In this instance, the concept incorporating self-deception and narcissism is addressed in order to determine a real-life situation.
In self-deception, the individuals tend to remain in denial and do not accept the real circumstances because they do not meet their expectations. In this instance, an athlete may perceive his performance better than others by disregarding the tangible evidence of other athlete’s performance charts. Similarly, a narcissist may become highly self-centered and disregard the wellbeing of others. In this instance, a narcissist leader may consider his pride more than the wellbeing of the society and hence, rather than accepting his political mistakes, a narcissist leader can worsen the political stability of the country.
In personality development, the theory of social psychology plays a prominent role because the traits, language and behaviors are observed to be acquired from the social environment. The prevalence of social groups in the social psychology indicates that the mindset, decisions and inclinations of an individual is in accordance with the group members. It also depicts the extent to which cultural and social factors help in the development of personality. In this instance, individuals learn different languages by interacting in their external environment and develop behaviors that are followed by the members of the society. In this way, the social psychological concepts help the scholars to understand the extent to which social factors effect the development of the individual and can help in predicting the future inclination of the individuals based on the consistent results of the researches.
