Dear (Put entity or specific recipient here),
One of the first profound moments I remember from my early life was the day I accompanied my brother to the Orthodontist and waited and watched as his braces were adjusted. I honed in on every detail of the experience, remembering the day vividly. I was captivated by the entire scene and watched eagerly as the orthodontist used piers to adjust wires. I asked a lot of questions and remember thinking that “I want to put this ‘machine’ in people’s mouth that makes their teeth move and creates a beautiful smile. I had an innate desire to do exactly as I saw the Orthodontist did. I remember thinking that “I want to put this ‘machine’ in people’s mouth that makes their teeth move and creates a beautiful smile.
Just as my brother’s smile is still with him today, I have carried this experience with me all these years and it has led me to where I am today. My dream, once abstract and distant has now moved closer to becoming a reality. Over the past decade and a half I have worked hard to put myself in a position to fulfill that the career path I so long ago in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
Since graduating from The University Gama Filho in Brazil and the Brazilian Association of Odontology, my ambition was not just to be a good orthodontist, but also to make myself into the best possible I was capable of. That led to me to the United States, to the University of Minnesota, where I received a Specialty Certificate in TMB, Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine. In 2014, I expect to graduate from the University with a D. D. S. in the Program for Advance Standing Students.
My career, while in it’s early stages, has not lacked accomplishments that I have been humbly proud to achieve. These include working in Clinics, publishing in The Journal of General Dentistry, receiving a scholarship to the International Institute of Minnesota, and mastering the English language, among others.
I was taught from an early age that hard work and perseverance are needed to bring about ones goals and dreams, and now as I stand with a year left before graduation, I am ready to take my dreams dreamt many years ago as a little girl in Rio de Janeiro to their final stage. This has been one of the busiest years of my life, and has served to energize me to continue to reach towards and work hard to attain my goals. My schedule has been filled with coordinating research (working with 20 doctors) in head and neck cancer in the department of otolaryngology in tandem with going through dental school at the University of Minnesota.
I am eager and prepared for the amount of work it will require of me to pursue Orthodontics and am prepared to work through any challenges along the way. This program is one of the best in the country and that is exactly the challenge I am hoping to put myself for. I am enthusiastic for the opportunity to finish my studies in the state and city I have come to love as home in the Residency program at the University of Minnesota. I have researched programs to find one with the values and traits that I do—a program that is committed to serving their patients, and a hardworking department that possess an ethos for excellence. The program that selects me will have an optimistic, highly enthusiastic, and intellectually curious individual who excels for the best and will work tirelessly to serve both patients and colleagues. I am also attracted to the University of MN orthodontic residency program because it is a well structured program, with the latest in technology, strong emphasis in research, well administered environment with orthodontists that love to teach.
One of the biggest strengths as a professional is a sincerity in my goals and ambitions. I want to be able to be impactful in people’s lives that would allow me to maximize the application of my goodwill towards them. I am excited to be where I am at right now: actively working to bring about the next stage of my passion for Orthodontics.
I am hard working, curious, diligent and eager to put this drive and passion into a program which will lead me to my dream of continuing to practice the subject that I love in a country that has become my home. I would love to be able to do that with your residency program and I thank you sincerely for your consideration of my application.
Best Regards,
