Caron Daley (2012) considered the connections between the work of Emile-Jacques Dalcroze and the choral rehearsal. The author asks about the instrument of the choral ensemble and proposes some variants. She proposed to realize the practical application of theories of Emile-Jacques Dalcroze.
Everything comes from the idea that a whole body is the choral instrument. At first, Emile Jacques- Dalcroze considered this issue and stated that people do not realize the connection between music education and qualities of musicianship. The capabilities of the body relate to choral singing. For example, some of his students had enough skills and education, but they didn’t have enough expression and inspiration to make people believe in them. The author states that Jacques- Dalcroze named this problem arrhythm and stated that the body is a missing link because it plays a great role between sounds and thoughts. He mentions education by rhythm and proclaims that people should be taught to sing and express their thoughts through rhythm. Jacques- Dalcroze even had individual approach to each student, aiming to develop his personality. He so deeply and thoroughly knew his pupils that he was able to make their musical portraits. Thus, the author state that students of Jacques- Dalcroze followed his ideas, moved the body and responded to sound.
The next important idea is that the whole-body teaching is still relevant. Choral singers are even named dancers on the slot and the main singer is called leader of the dance. A lot of artists use special body tactics to provide body-based techniques. Talking about practices, it should be noted that the main things are aural and kinesthetic awareness and a feedback. This approach means a voice as one part of whole-body coordination. The movement training should result in a state when a person is able to transfer an idea to the public using body moves and songs, have a conversation with public without any direct appeal. Choristers are able to paint the music while singing. According to the author, musical thought results from special emotions and people can demonstrate how music moves their bodies.
