The case shown in the story “Two Managers, Two Headaches” is a major issue in many organizations. When there are many leaders – resulting in many ‘inputs’ in decision-making and operations management – disagreements and misunderstandings are more likely to happen. Such is the case between Mr. Ramirez and Ms. Weiss. Both have contradicting ways of management. Mr. Ramirez is so friendly with the employees since he allows workers – particularly the supervisors – to do things on their own discretion and by their own strategies. Also, he believes that having [closer] relations with the workers will allow them to be more receptive of instructions from the managers or supervisors. Further, he believes that closer relationships among the workers will result in collaboration, which leads to better productivity. On the other hand, Ms. Weiss is so ‘cold’. She is unapproachable for their workers. All that matters for her is that the workers follow the production procedures, to meet deadlines, and just focus on the quality of their work. Now to increase the morale of the workers in their company, both managers should fulfill certain things. The workers should be reminded to view their work not as mere labor – which is tiring – but as their life-fulfilling lifestyle. Also, celebrations and acknowledgement of accomplishments should be performed. Another way is by having activities that will mix up all the workers together. This is called “team-building” activities. In relation to this, the managers should never forget to have fun among the workers. Further, the managers should train the workers to have positive attitudes towards any responsibility they have at work. Lastly, they [the managers] should offer the workers enough time away from work. There should never be a form of exploitation of their employees. Both managers have profitable perspectives in management. One regards quality and order higher; the other views teamwork and relations more valuable. The senior management can combine the two sides to make things better.
