The film is a dramatic epic show of the American Revolution. The film is a depiction of the impact of George Washington’s courage and sheer belief in the fight against British colonists. Faced with obstacles ranging from poorly trained soldiers, a decimated army, and shortage of war supplies, freezing conditions and a deficiency of artillery, George was a strategist employing items at his disposal to win the Battle of Trenton. Events preceding the crossing of the river Delaware indicate some of the challenges faced by the Revolutionists against the British Empire. The film helps one understand the character of George Washington and his lieutenants while providing a glimpse of the struggles that Revolutionists faced to obtain liberation.
Washington had recently lost to the British and was in the process of fleeing. Under heavy pressure he retreated to the Jerseys, and decided to cross the Delaware as this would have enabled him to find reprieve as the British Army could not cross the river. Upon crossing the river, Washington wrote to Congress to ask for monetary help as their cause could have stuttered, faced with the different challenges. However, Washington’s resolved to make one last attempt through the use of the element of surprise to attack a 1200 contingent of the feared Hessian mercenaries situated at Trenton. Washington conceptualized the plan wittingly and objectively as he organized the attack on three fronts while maximizing on the Christmas celebration by the enemy to attack. Breaking up of the days’ rest and celebrations that followed the defeat indicates the nature of the leadership’s management in ensuring the risk of retaliation by the British was curtailed. No fatalities were reported as the cause of the battle of Trenton proved to be a worthy cause that ensured victory and gave hope to the American Revolutionists.
