Introduction
In the last seven years the number of Americans who believe that the federal government poses immediate threats to peoples rights and freedom has increased by 16%. According to Gallup polls, the percentage of American who in 2005 believed that the federal government interferes with citizens’ rights and freedom was 30%, but this has since risen to 46%. Only 51% of the Americans believe that the federal governments do not pose threat to their rights and freedom. In fact 66% of republicans, 49% of independents, and 21% of the democrats think that federal government is posing immediate threat to the citizens’ rights and freedom (Jeffrey), CNN News reporter.
Rights and freedcoms, since time memorial has been a cry of anti-government activists and Ronald Reagan once confirmed this statement when he said that runaway government threatens the very preservation of freedom. In fact Charlto Heston, once indicated in his speech that federal government is not only posing a threat to the peoples immediate freedom but also oppressing peoples freedom and rights. He also noted that there is not a single aspect of American citizen, whether private or public that the federal governments do not assault, instruct and finally coerce to its will. The spidery network of laws formulated and legalized by the federal government, guidelines, unnecessary restrictions and harsh penalties targeted to homes, schools, farms, factories, club, play ground, research center and universities have lowered the spirits, energy and citizens’ ability and capacity (Yands and Burgoon, 56).
However it is Imperative to note that many people are concerned and get really interested when federal government impinge on their freedoms and rights, in fact as noted by Gallup, 46 percent of the American citizens believe in that. But in real sense some of these people are very harsh and defensive when federal governments stop them from doing as they had planned, whether it is riding motorcycle without protective clothing and helmet or possessing and carrying a gun for their protection. Thus in the long run it just ends up as an effective political tactic, where anybody can just bash the government but still believe that the federal government is impinging on their freedoms and rights (Walther, 40).
But I strongly disagree with the above opinions since America is a land of the free as we always sing in the national anthem. Thus any attempts by the government that are perceived to be interfering with the citizens’ freedom will be seen as anti American and that’s bad. In fact, the federal government has failed severally in respecting people rights and freedoms by legalizing too many laws with the belief that the government is too big. Also, the federal governments have been accused for over involvement in the private lives of its citizens’. Furthermore, the federal government violates first amendment thus, freedom of speech, healthcare law and socialist government. Anti federal government activists have also pointed out overtaxing by the federals, violation of the second amendment-gun control and failing to secure borders effectively by allowing illegal immigration. Moreover, the activists have complained of too much spending by the federals beyond the planned budget as well as violation of marriage vows.
In conclusion, it is not a secret that the citizens’ are not satisfied with the federal government since the polls have proven their anger towards the government.
