Her full names were Rosa Louise Parks McCauley. She was born in 1913 and died in the year 2005. She was a U.S citizen from the south and a civil rights activist, meaning that she was a black American. The U.S congress used to refer to her as the civil rights’ first lady and the freedom movement’s mother.
Her fight for human rights started in the year 1955, when she knowingly refused to surrender her sit for a white passenger. This was after had she had received a direction from the bus driver in which she was travelling in to surrender the seat and move to the back of the bus. She was then arrested for having broken the laws. This was responded to by a very long boycott of the black men and women of Montgomery. These people refused to use the city buses and demanded that the segregation laws to be abolished. After a period of 381 days, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the segregation laws in the buses and could now sit wherever they wanted. This boycott came to be known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This marked the end of the segregation laws in the buses.
The step that Rosa took to defy acted as the ignition point to the civil rights movements against segregation laws. She thus became an international figure. She became to be known as a fighter against racial segregation.
In her efforts she organized and at the same time collaborated with other leading fighters for human rights including the Junior Martin Luther King. This helped in launching her to the world of civil rights.
Rosa, when she was acting became the secretary to the NAACP, a leading association that was geared for the advancement of the white people i.e. Montgomery chapter. Despite the fact that she became known and respected for her action in the later years she really suffered in its pay. She lost her job and was forced to migrate to Michigan where she later found a job of the same kind.
Parks initiative to refuse surrendering her seat ignited the boycott simply because immediately before her, a young lady had been charged for such offences but later her case was dropped. So, when a repeat of the same happened, a boycott was announced with the women the political council of women being the first to endorse it.
Concerning the Scottsboro boys- this was a group of nine young black men. This group was accused of raping two white ladies. They were arrested and several charges were placed against them. When it was trial time, many blacks came in their rescue. Rosa Parks who was married to Raymond parks joined the husband in the collection of the money that was used in defense of these boys.
As far as voting is concerned, Rosa Parks made several attempts to register as a voter. The first two attempts were in vain but the third was a success. This was how she made it possible to participate in voting which was a white people business.
