Management Skills Summary
Management skills are the abilities to complete any tasks effectively using the knowledge obtained from practice and training. Most people have good skills only in some areas, while the set of basic skills of an individual is usually rather extensive. While working on the team, it is of the greatest importance to determine what skills every team member has. It will allow the team to assign each task to the team member more productively depending on the skills he or she has. To build a strong and a cohesive team, every member of the team should identify the skills he or she can bring to the group.
There are many types of skills, including communication and organizational skills. Our team determined that some of us have the highly-developed communication skills, which are necessary to make a unified group of people working hard to achieve the common goal. It came out that all our team members have such skills including oral, written and non-verbal skills. Communication skills have the top priority for each team as all the members need to communicate well with each other.
Also, we determined that only a few persons on the team have the necessary organizational skills and are able to plan and schedule the work of others. Some group participants possess certain technical skills and are proficient in MS Office and other applications. Several members are very creative and they are able to find a productive way of how the limited resources can be used to balance heavy workloads. We also realized that we all have many other skills, such as abilities to stay patient, calm and approachable when dealing with the emergencies. All these skills are very helpful while all the team members are working as a unit and are necessary for the effective cooperation within the team.
Every person on the team has to share his or her own baggage with the others to make sure that all weak spots and discovered and targeted. We found out that most likely we tend to criticize others and feel nervous if someone else is trying to pass the responsibilities. After discussing these issues, we have decided that we should be more respectful and honest as it will help to eliminate the impact of the baggage on the team.
Every company or a group of people needs to have a list of principles that must be followed. Thus, we have identified honesty, respect, responsibility, consideration, openness and other values as those of the greatest importance to each member and to the team as a whole. These principles must be applied by all team participants, as these guiding principles will be crucial for the company to reach its goals.
Finally, goal setting is of the prime importance for every team. Goal setting helps all the members improve the time management and increase performance. Every member of the team has to set his or her own goals, which have to include the deadline and the amount of work that needs to be done. Setting and reaching personal goals will have to achieve the goals of the team due the personal growth of each member. Our team has identified two main goals to be achieved, which are doing everything needed to get the best result for each team assignment and also winning the end-of-the-semester bonus points for the team performance.
The participation in the discussions has brought our team together. It helped us improve the team cohesion and build a strong team spirit. Thus our team became stronger and ready to compete for the end-of-the-semester bonus points.
