Child immunization is the program that needs to be done frequently. The immunization of children can help both the parents and the children in several ways. The outcomes of the immunization of the children will lead parental awareness of the benefits of the vaccine, reduced prevalence of the disease that is vaccine-preventable, reduced burden of the preventable diseases through the vaccine in immunized children, and change of attitude in the parents.
The different types of evaluation that will be involved in this immunization program will formative, process, impact and outcome evaluations (Hodges & Videto, 2011). The formative evaluation evaluates the program at hand in the initial stages of development to make early improvements. It uses qualitative methods like interviews to know the barriers and ways of improvements. In this case the immunization program uses the qualitative methods to know how to improve the methods and to the amount of children that will need the immunization.
The second type of evaluation is the process is involved in the implementation of certain strategies that are needed in the implementation. It will determine if the implementations were made in the program. For instance, in this immunization program, it will make sure that it knows the number of the children that were immunized and if the strategies they used met their goals.
The third type of evaluation is the impact evaluation, which focuses on the negative and positive outcome in the long term. It makes sure that it studies the outcomes of the immunization either positively or negatively (Hodges & Videto, 2011). In this case, it will show what will happen to the children that will be immunized and those that will not be immunized. For instance, children that will not be immunized will be affected later in their life in growing for example they will be affected with Polio.
The last type is the outcome evaluation, which focuses on the changes that will come with the immunization. These changes can be either short term or long term and they will help the participants to know the benefits of the program. The immunization program will help the evaluator know the changes that occurred during the program. It also helps to know the long-term and short-term changes that the participants reported.
