Internet Assignment
I did not encounter any difficulties in logging into either site. I just typed the address and googled the sites. For the second website, I had to log in through Facebook. On both websites, there are visible attempts requesting people to donate or contribute to the party.
The purpose of the Democrats is to build an economy that lasts. The resultant economy should lift up all Americans. The Democrats are working to advance issues like job, creation, education, healthcare, and clean energy. The website provides links that direct visitors to information about the party, the people who form its audience, the issues it deals with, and the elections.
Relevant information included in the Democrat's website include the history of the party, information on voters rights, jobs and employment forecast, and polling locations (Democrats.org, n.p).
Democrats presents a variety of viewpoints like building an economy that lifts all Americans, commitment to provide healthcare to all Americans despite unanimous opposition from Republicans, and the party’s dedication to the provision of first-rate education to children and young people.
The Democratic Party audience is comprised of Americans of all walks life and origins regardless of their gender, race, place of origin, age, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, physical state, education levels, and residential places and so on (Democrats.org, n.p).
The Democratic Party’s website provides information about voting; how to register, the impeding November 2014 Senate and Congress elections, the party’s tools and resources for fighting the Republican Party, the party’s support to state parties and so on (Democrats.org, n.p). Graphics includes those on voting, women suffrage, civil rights protests, and a standout President Obama’s picture whereby he is pitching for financial support.
Issues analyzed in this website include jobs and the economy. Techniques used to pre-empt persuasion include the presentation of data that shows success made by the President and the party, in addressing issues related to the nation’s job market and the economy. There is no indication that the Democratic Party is targeting swing states in the 2014, mid-term election and instead, the party seems to have sole focus on the states which it has traditionally dominated. Based on my analysis, the website is fair in its presentation of what Democrats have achieved and what they intend to do.
The Republican Party
The Republican Party main purpose or goal is to fight for a freer and stronger America where everyone has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream (Republican National Committee, n.p)
The Republican Party audience is comprised of Americans of all walks life and origins. The website calls upon all Americans to come forth and build the Republican Party. Building the Republican Party is a team effort, and all communities are requested to join the party.
The information provided by this website is varied and some of it, for instance, touches on voting information. There is also a lot of Republican merchandise being shopped around the website, as well as findings from some of the party’s past research endeavors. Graphics found on the website include those promoting Republican merchandise such as coffee mug and hoods.
. Others are graphics of people from diverse origins and affiliations. Some of the links provided include those that lead to videos that talk about Republican issues such as a video added on October 31, 2014 which claim that Democrats degrade women.
The site also provides relevant information regarding the several reforms in healthcare and education the party is pushing for. These reforms affect the population and are core to the Republican Party agenda. Another important piece of information regards the party’s dedication to honoring and engaging veterans and military families in competitive politics and leadership activities (Republican National Committee, n.p)
The Republican Party presents a variety of viewpoints including pushing for healthcare reforms that would put doctors in control, and not unelected secretaries in Washington. Another viewpoint centers on every child having the opportunity to acquire a superb education and a stipulation that no parent be made to take their child to a failing school (Republican National Committee, n.p).
One issue analyzed is immigration reforms. The site makes appeals to logic on the subject of immigration reforms. The immigration system wanted is one that secures the American borders, upholds rule of law and boosts the economy (Republican National Committee, n.p)
Various techniques are used to attempt to persuade enumeration of the envisaged benefits of this immigration system. There is no apparent indication that the Republican Party is targeting swing states in the 2014, mid-term election. Based on my analysis, the site is convincing.
Blogs
The one blog which favors Democrats is on the Democrat's party website. It is titled “Support the voter expansion project”. The idea being introduced is realistic, and the President can push for it to be enacted. Voting is among the most fundamental of rights in the U.S democracy, and every eligible voter should register. Each registered voter should be accorded the ability to vote, and every vote should be counted accurately. The President should be at the forefront of protecting fundamental rights contained in the constitution to promote democratic, all-inclusive leadership. He has the political clout and symbolic power to mobilize people to fight for protection and expansion of voting rights. By doing this, he will be protecting the tenets of law. This is realistic because voting rights show a sensible aspect which is truthful. Realistic ideas are ones which are sensible and indicate what is true. Citizens should choose their preferred leaders freely without any impediment.
The blog uses ethics and values as enshrined in the U.S democracy to persuade people to stand up and fight for their voting rights. Chad H, in the comments section, says that not even one Democrat voted to ratify the 15th amendment. She claims they voted to not allow blacks and women to vote. My counter-argument is: one should not dwell on past matters in that way. One should move on, adapt, and embrace good laws over time.
My view on the theme of the blog is that every eligible voter should proudly exercise their right to register and vote.
The blog which favors Republicans is “Obamacare Covers Foreign Diplomats” by Tim Mak in The Daily Beast.
The idea introduced by the blog is impractical for the President to enact. This is because Obamacare results from various pieces of legislation which is a preserve of the legislators, not the Executive. Legislators are the one tasked with coming up with legislation, passing them and rectifying Acts. It is impractical for the President to make changes to existing laws.
This blog appeals to emotion to persuade the Americans. It is emotional for Americans to learn that their dollars in form of tax are being used to subsidize health coverage for foreign diplomats without their outright consent.
My counter-argument on the opinion that American taxpayers should be used to subsidize health services for foreign diplomats is that everyone staying within the U.S borders should benefit from this health scheme since all pay taxes to the government. My view on the theme of the blog is that everyone in the U.S should be eligible for the subsidized healthcare coverage. It should be made all-inclusive.
The assignment has impacted my voting preferences for 2014. My instincts resonate with the Democrats because of their competent articulation of what they stand for, their achievements, and what they intend to do to better the life of everyone. The Republicans are working hard to paint their image in good light instead of being engaging and pushing for inclusion of everyone in public programs, for instance in the extension of benefits of subsidized healthcare to all U.S residents.
