The film A Rose for Emily is about a wealthy young woman whose name is Emily Grierson who has a very strict father. Her father does not allow any men to take her out and it seems that she would never marry because of that. Emily is not an independent woman and she has to seek approval to do anything. She is a tragic character in this story and the culmination of her life happens when she poisons the man she was going to marry.
A Rose for Emily is a tragic story of a youth which was doomed to tragedy because of the flaws in character. Emily’s father never allows his daughter to become a real woman and to act her age or have fun. One day he dies all of a sudden and Emily does not even admit that he is no longer alive. She lets his body stay at the kitchen table where he died which is not normal. People come to express their condolences, but she refuses to admit that her father is dead. However, the city officials enter the house and take the body away. Moreover, there is an odor spreading from her garden and she will not fix that which is why the Colonel helps her once again.
Finally, Emily falls in love with Homer, a construction worker and they are supposed to get married. She poisons him with arsenic and seals the room in which she put him. Everybody thinks that he abandoned her, but once she dies the truth of her insanity is revealed and she is mourned as a tragic figure because of the fact that she was unhappy in life. She finds peace in death and the people from the town and her relative finally find out the whole truth and see evidence of her misery.
