Chris Kyle wrote his autobiographic book in which he has described his training and military experience. Kyle starts his book with a background on himself, the place he lived and his family. He then proceeds to tell about his young years he spent as a cowboy and rodeo rider. Then the main part of the story starts, in which, at first, his training as a Navy SEAL is described. Chris Kyle explains the BUD/S training program he and other recruits had to go through and how difficult and challenging it is.
He then proceeds to tell the story of his first deployment to Iraq and the events there. In total there are four tours in the book, after the fourth one Chris Kyle was honorably discharged from the military. In the part about the tours he talks a lot about the people he had to kill and does not take pride in doing so, instead he says that he was just doing his job and what he thought was right to keep his friends safe on the battlefield. At first he was not counting the kills, but eventually, it has become evident that Chris Kyle was the most lethal sniper in the US military history.
In the book Kyle speaks little of himself, and when he does, he only mentions that all he ever wanted is to make the world a safer place, protect his country and his family. He also mentions how much he misses his wife and children. All in all, he does not praise the war or anything like that and acts like a person doing what he was tasked to do.
The book is worth reading if one is interested in detailed depiction of war events and facts rather then personal relationships and drama. The latter are presented here too, but to a much lesser extent. I did not like the message Kyle was repeating throughout the book, that the war in a distant region can make his country and family safer and that by eliminating as many enemies as possible, he could ensure that terrorist attacks will not happen anymore. It is true that he has saved as many lives, as he has taken, if not more, but those saved lives were of his friends and teammates on the battlefield, so, probably, when he was saying that he protects the country, he meant protecting the people who belonged to that country and served alongside him, and it somehow got distorted in numerous editions his memoir underwent before publishing.
