He did his job ideally and that is why he moved up to the telegraph operator position. In 1853, Carnegie got the job at the Pennsylvania Railroad where he received the needed experience. There he learned about the secrets of running a business in general and about the pitfalls of the railroad industry in particular. His way to the luxury life started.

Carnegie kept pace with his times and founded the Carnegie Steel Company that revolutionized the steel production in the U. S.A. He used new methods and technologies that made manufacturing steel faster, easier and more productive. As a result, Carnegie took the dominant position in the industry and became an exceedingly wealthy businessperson. His company played a vital role in fuelling the economy and shaping the nation we know today.
Carnegie was a philanthropist and spent over 90 percent of his fortune on charity. His example influenced of the decision of other wealthy people to donate non-profit organizations.
