A study of Changes in Women Status
Introduction
Different cultures have different values and regards for women. The position held by them does not, however, remain the same. Changes are expected as developments arise and take center stage. In this regard, it is paramount to note that, the traditional set up among the majority of cultures placed women at an underprivileged position as opposed to men. In essence, it is, however, crucial to further note that, women have increasingly been on the move to fight for their rights. They have been able to overcome some challenges that come along the position of womanhood. The reason behind this analysis of the changes that have been significant in as far as women status is concerned, I aim to find solutions to problems that are largely manifested in their daily affairs. At the same time, I purpose to identify ways that facilitate the revolution of women in as far as discrimination and under regarding by the society is concerned. In this study, I will make references on Goddess and the Red detachment of Women movies.
They are movies that represented different periods of time in as far as the positions and status of women is concerned. The filming of the Goddess dates back to the year, nineteen ninety four during that of Red detachment of Women dates back to the year nineteen sixty. From the movies as it will be studied in this foregoing, it is evident that, the position and status of women have been increasing with time. In Goddess, for example, Ann, the most referred to the character is born in a family that subjected her to loneliness. Despite all the challenges that engraved her, she was able to emerge as the goddess of acting and theatre instances. On the other hand, the Red detachment of women was set in the periods that marked nineteen sixty. At this time, it is significant to highlight that, women's status was depicted Wu Chinqua. Wu, with the help of her friends and people who shared in her thoughts and ambitions, ended up forming a revolution. The revolution facilitated the domination of women in the Communist party.
Body
In the Goddess, Emily Ann is born at a time when not all her parents were there to offer her with necessities envisaged by a child of such a tender age. In essence, she was fatherless. Her mother singly made struggles ensure that she at least had something to eat, somewhere to sleep and a place to call home. Despite the fact that the setting of the movie dictates that the other family members were at present, it is quite clear that, no one cared whether the single mother was able to adequately support herself and her child. In this case, it is clear and open that, the status of women was placed on a low instance. No one cared much about the women fraternity. In the height of all the instances of discrimination that existed at that time, they had to fight their ways out. Stanly mother is an example of the instance which dictates that, the ancient setting of communities did not recognize women as equal beings who can acquire the same status with men when place on the same table. However, Emily Ann is not held back by the mere fact that, the society had placed women in such a ditch. She lives a lonely life but does not give up her ambitions. In her early life, she engages in things so as to get men's attention. She is depicted as a beautiful woman whose appearance and valor sounded resisting in the eyes of any man. She was, however, not able to adequately deal with the issue. She feared reacting back towards approaches that came her way in light of her beauty. In this context, it is clear that, women were under oppression from men.
Emily Ann acquired some status due to her acting prowess. She then decides to change her name to Rita. The justifications behind her change of name reflect back to her position the society had placed her at. She would not continue domineering if she kept to her old name. In essence, the society was opposed to the development of women. However, Ann emerged out as a mutated woman who had conquered all limitations that are placed before the scope of women. The acting scene had never received great contribution as those contributed by Ann. She raised the status of women in that society from mere social, domestic workers to career. She had competed favorably her male counterparts but still emerged victorious. It should further be identified that, the outcomes and significant instances in the Goddess marked the early instances of the nineteenth century. The status of women can be defined as that which has been receiving development over time. In this regard, analyzing Red Detachment, we come to the following conclusions. Red detachment was set at a later point in time. It reflected societal references to gender issues in the nineteen sixties. The period assumed by Red Detachment marked a historical instance in the United States of America. It was when revolutions were largely witnessed. As it regards to changes that envisaged the transformation of the status of women, the movie reveals the following; Rita was born at a time when there were political instabilities.
Rita planned of escaping from her home country when she was still young.. She was running away from political pressures and ill treatments. However, her escape was not to come to pass. She was arrested and thrown in a military camp. In the camp, women were not allowed to engage in the activities that were mostly under the discretion of women included cleaning and minor endeavors. However, a change to this generality was brought in by Wu, she emerged out as a strong woman. Alongside with other women, they dominated they dominated the famous communist party which was previously not signed to women. It is also crucial to note that, Wu spearheaded new changes in as far as the position of women was situated. On the same case, the status of women was evident from the treatments that the women received at the height of the male commanders. They were taken as entertainment objects. In this regard, a group of women were seen to be dancing to the male officials at special occasions that were stage managed by the events of the communist party. At some point, women are brought in public with whips. In such events, it is well established that, women were not regarded at all and could be treated in whichever way. In spite of all these happenings, the setting of the movie further represents an upfront in the status of women. It is evident by the fact that Wu raised the status of women in as far as politics is concerned.
Conclusion
The discussion above has highlighted the performances by women as evident in the movies, Goddess and Red detachment of Women. The people’s Republic Movement has significantly shaped the relationship of the phenomena at hand.
