Personal and professional accountability
Concerning the roles that I am supposed to play in regards to my personal and professional accountability, I rate myself as a being competent since I have been in work for the past seven years. However, I have got aspirations of making it big in my professional life a situation which calls for me advancing my education. My pursuance of higher educational levels serves the purpose of self-fulfillment in addition to career satisfaction. Additionally, by developing my literacy levels, I will gain valuable knowledge which will be useful in assisting me carry out planning regarding my career and also build my character (Kallas, 2014). As such, I will be better placed to foster better relationships with my patients as a way of improving their satisfaction levels from the care which they will be receiving. These efforts are all aimed at making me a better nurse. Secondly, in regards to my ethical and practice behavior, my ratings in the skills inventory can be equated to that one of an expert. This is due to the realization that utilitarianism controls my personal worldview as the basic ethical theory (Hayry, 2013). There is the need for care providers to ensure that whatever their actions are, they should always be directed towards achieving the best from their patients. Such a comprehension forms the basis on which I provide my services to my clientele. Professional associations have also played a significant role in my growth journey. So far, I have subscribed to National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) and the American Nurses Association (ANA) while at school and in practice respectively. My membership in these two organizations has been instrumental in building my career path since they have provided me with an opportunity to benefit from policy papers and publications concerning the profession (Sanford, 2012). Such papers have been essential in ensuring that I can develop as a nurse leader. Finally, I possess all the required nursing certifications as required by the law a situation which has enabled me to perform my duties legally.
Career planning
Having been in the nursing profession for seven years, I regard myself as a professional as far as my level of career planning is concerned. To this effect, I satisfactorily understand the role that I am supposed to play as far as my job description is concerned. I aspire to be a nurse administrator in future as a way of satisfying my career goal requirements. The workshops and seminars which I have attended regarding the profession have been essential in making sure that I grasp all that is required of me in regards to nursing leadership (Kallas, 2014). As a way of increasing my leadership opportunities, I intend to get involved in managerial courses like human resource management, strategic management, and financial management. All these efforts have been directed towards living up to any challenges that I may encounter in my future leadership positions.
Personal journey disciplines
In regards to the way I relate with my colleagues at the workplace, there is the need for getting everybody on board, especially when making decisions that will affect the healthcare setting as a whole. As such, the contributions that all staff members make in any decision-making process are usually accorded the required attention as a way of accommodating their take on different issues affecting the organization (Huber, 2015). Such a move is aimed at boosting my managerial skills based on the adage that a problem shared is a problem half solved. Additionally, by ensuring that the care givers are involved in action learning, they will be better placed to gain hands-on experience which will be a significant step towards boosting their work rates in future.
Reflective practice reference behaviors/tenets
Concerning my reflective practices, I dwell a lot on honesty since I believe that by people opening up to others, they will be better placed to address any problems that they may face. Leaders are supposed to be on the forefront in advocating for this attribute as it lays a foundation for staff members to work in the most ethical manner (Hayry, 2013). Secondly, my seven years working experience in the nursing field has assisted me to gain valuable cultural competence which has been helpful to me in relating well with patients and my colleagues who come from diverse backgrounds. Such a move has been instrumental in boosting my leadership capabilities since I have understood the diversity of individuals in the society. Furthermore, such skills will play a decisive role in addressing my future leadership needs as I will be able to solve any problems that may come my way. Finally, my love for reading new materials concerning leadership has opened me up to newer experiences concerning how leaders are supposed to interact with their subjects in fostering a good working relationship.
Advocating for change in my workplace
The current leadership skills which I possess will play an essential role in making sure that the spirit of brotherhood and teamwork is experienced in my place of work. This will be the most appropriate change that I would like to advocate for according my leadership capabilities. Teamwork allows for the sharing of responsibilities which is a significant step in easing nurses’ workload (Huber, 2015). Such a realization will, therefore, mean that everyone works to the best of their capabilities culminating in their improved satisfaction levels. Teamwork has in most instances improved patient outcomes based on the realization that different care providers with diverse expertise can give their individual contributions in regards to patient care.
My goal for leadership growth
My ultimate leadership growth objective is to be able to gain the nurse manager status in future. Such a move will be directed at satisfying my personal career goals since I will have achieved my self-actualization status. In this regard, therefore, I intend to get involved in activities which will improve my chances of realizing this dream. As such, I will resort to advancing my education as a way of boosting my leadership skills. Taking courses on management in addition to going for my master’s degree will effectively serve this purpose.
