Nowadays computers are widely used in almost every area of our life. It plays especially crucial role to people, who are running organizations, industries, or even countries. Almost anything that is known to modern society is run or designed by computers. Complex mechanisms, equipment, cars, gadgets are designed on computers, light signals, that facilitates and make safety the traffic are run by computers, medical equipment use different computer programs, even space exploration become a reality after computers appeared. The vast majority of jobs cannot be done without computers. From the very beginning this, ‘mechanical brain’ made a great impact on our society and started so called ‘technological revolution.’ It is hard to imagine a modern life without these machines.
Just for a quick moment let’s visualize, that all computers disappear. It would be impossible for people, who are operating in the medical field to find out cures to diseases, as most of the cures were invented with the help of computers. Such movies as Jurassic Park, Avatar, Inception would never appear on big screens without computers, because they were created with the help of computer graphics and animation (LaBerta, Beekman, 2012). Pharmacies would encounter with a lot of hardships regarding what medications to prescribe to patients. Counting votes during elections would be much complicated without computers, and most importantly, it would be impossible to launch space rockets that help to explore space. It is quite tough and complicated life without artificial intelligence. Some people are not satisfied with the idea that computers are tightly bonded with your life; they may say ‘Well, we can simply do without computers.’ To some extent they are right, but mostly it is an erroneous thought.
Computers have a great impact on many spheres of modern society. One of such sphere is business. Business widely uses computers in order to operate accounts, cash flows, banking procedures (Easton, 2011). It is quite common to see a businessman who is using a computer, or laptop that is portable and can be taking almost everywhere. Computers are commonly used for presenting data (by using different charts, graphs, and equations) in business meetings. Banking system is using different terminals that gives an online accounting facility and enables to track such information as the status of current balances, overdrafts, interest charges and deposits.
Despite business computers also influence education. It is much easier to complete some research project or home assignment. If for example student has to complete an essay about Moon, or Einstein’s theory of relativity, they can simply take a look into an electronic encyclopedia, blog or online scientific journal (Mumford, 2010). They can also simplify the process of writing reports by using so called word-processing program. Among teachers, computers are commonly used as well. Mostly they use these machines to keep a track of student’s grades, create instructions for different assignments and educational plans. Also, there are a lot of educational resources that facilitates the process of gaining new knowledge.
Computers significantly change the way people interacts. Today you can simply switch on your computer and keep in touch with people who are located in a different country or even continent. Quite often people use social networks, where they can share a lot of information with their friends and grow their communities, e-mails are also quite often used for communication. But sometimes such use of computer can lead to addiction, so it is very important to draw the line between reality and virtual world.
Finally, computers have a great impact on the environment. For now, it is a reality to give us such sources of energy as nuclear fuel, organic fuel and instead use such alternative sources as wind and solar power. With the help of computers, we can also recycle waste and reduce the emission of CO2 into the air.
If to conclude, computers can offer innumerable benefits and ameliorate the quality of life of people all over the world. Computer technologies redefine the economic, social, environmental and cultural scene. Computers enabled people to cure diseases more effectively, make entertainment much better, and keep a track of significant records.
