Personal awareness of critical perspective
Critical perspectives in the field of nursing help me as a future professional understand various elements that influence health care outcome. Nurses have a role in introducing critical perspectives in the field of nursing to bring changes needed in promoting the quality of care. Throughout my nursing career, I have aspired to protect the rights of minorities in the society because they are the most disadvantaged population. According to Getzlaf and Osborne (2010), nurses play a significant role in changing the health care delivery to the society by eliminating inequalities, oppressions and constraints that limit the delivery of care. The awareness of critical perspectives leads to the development of critical consciousness that makes individual nurses practice appropriate actions aimed at promoting quality health care outcome.
Personal/professional insights that alter the thinking about my work environment
Studying the article on “A Journey of Critical Consciousness: An Educational Strategy for Health Care Leaders” has altered my professional and personal insights about my workplace environment. Firstly, I have realized I am supposed to act as a leader in my area of expertise irrespective of my position. As a leader, I am expected to lead my colleagues into doing ethical and acceptable practices without discrimination. Second, the reading has altered my professional insight to not only concentrate on issues within the workplace environment but also focus on wider horizons (Getzlaf and Osborne, 2010). The article compels me to think wider to come up with policies that ensure every person in the society gets access to quality, safe, and cost-effective care.
Critical perspectives on health and culture leading to actions to transform health care for the identified population subset
The main population subset consists of the minority ethnic communities living in major towns and cities. These communities experience many challenges accessing quality health care services. The issue of ethnicity has affected the delivery of care to the marginalized people calling upon immediate actions to transform the health care sector.
