Deviance in Music
Socialization may be defined as the culture development in a person, teaching the social values and norms to the individual. Socialization creates self-awareness how people should interact with the society (Clinard et al. 12).
Deviance, on the contrary, is an antipathy from the usual values and norms of the society. An extreme emerging from Deviance is crime - when person deviates from a norm that is understood as a law (Clinard et al. 14).
Socialization, deviance and crime are three important features of sociological study; they explain different behavior in society. Socialization is the process of how people perceive a culture. Deviance shows who do not accept those norms and crime shows people who not only reject the norms but also violates them. All these three aspects have an immense effect on the society and that is why they are key focus for sociology (Clinard et al. 14).
Violating norms and behaviour and breaking the frames of the usual way of things, Deviance may be a characteristic feature of not just people. The topic under consideration is Deviant music.
Across time performers in all genres of music have been consider deviant to some degree, some obvious examples include: Elvis, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Nirvana, Eminem, and Miley Cyrus. They are understood to be too big and extend for those frames they had, all of them are known for giving to music something more.
Some of them are considered to start a new music style, to mix several previous styles, to mix music style and dancing, to behave in a different way than the society, but all of them are obviously a brand new page in music history and the huge step outside the box. Although sometimes, people need time to understand it, as the music created may outstrip the time, alike the paintings of some famous artists or novels of some famous writers still wait their century to be understood and valued properly.
So, analyzing these bands, singers and performers, we can conclude that music is considered to be deviant, when it goes beyond the norms and mixes something with something else to get a new thing.
Music is very important aspect in socialization as it has the massage and provides it cognitively, emotionally and physically.
