I have always been the oddball in the crowd, no matter if I intended to break out, or not. I was even harshly bullied in middle school, being labeled as a white girl in a black girl’s body. Peers can be very callous and make school very unpleasant. Luckily, all this did not impact me in the wrong sense, since I have learned early on that people bully others because they are dealing with personal issues themselves. Looking a short while back, I still can hear the whispers of my mother’s voice, “Never allow someone else decide who you are as a person. That is your decision to make, and always dream big, for this is your dream to dream!”
Courage is something I have had to lean on my whole life, especially when I am walking alone. My favorite classes - math and medical - have sparked a unique stimulation that creates an escape for me during this intimidated part of my life. I store courage in a protected place within my mental capacity, and only then can I fully emerge in those subjects that I love and be able to be myself again. After graduating from high school, I plan to attend Spelman College to study Biology. My ultimate goal in life is to become a Pediatrician, so that I can help rejuvenate young people’s lives.
I have passionately embraced the idea that my bridge will be the path of education because it will award me more opportunities than anything else in life. Therefore, I would be an excellent recipient for the Courage to Grow Scholarship, as it would be an immense investment into a bright and promising future.
