1. I don’t think I have experienced egocentrism in the form as explained in the video or the article, during my adolescence. Perhaps it was not very evident in me. But I was more conscious about my looks as well as was more concerned about what others said during those adolescent times. Yes, I have observed egocentrism in a few of my classmates, but in a very mild way. During different developmental stages of an individual, egocentrism in different forms do occur and most individuals overcome it as they grow in age. In the adolescent stage, people are more concerned about oneself and egocentrism is the inefficiency to distinguish one’s own thoughts from that of others. So they might become overly self conscious, over confident or greatly upset or depressed. Behavior or perception does depend on ones mental state and mood as well. It could also lead to extremely dangerous behaviors and addictions as well.
2. Mild form of egocentrism was noticed in me, but could overcome that through proper mental development. I have noticed similar egocentric behaviors in some of my cousin’s also. It is seen that egocentrism is more evident during the adolescent periods as people become more aware or conscious about oneself. Adolescent egocentrism could lead to indiscipline behaviors, weird or unhealthy deeds, which could even make one selves upset or terribly depressed. Egocentric adolescent in fact could resort to unwanted behaviors or develop precarious habits, which might even affect the health and well being of the individual.
3. Even though egocentrism was very mild in me, it was quite obvious in a few of my friends and relatives. The egocentric attitude or behaviors in fact vanished from me, my friends and my relatives as we grew up. Right types of mental development can reduce the risk of egocentric acts or behaviors from prolonging. Adolescent egocentrism is closely studied and researched by psychologists as the number of people experiencing it is relatively high and is quite evident during the period. Adolescent egocentrism could even force the individual to respond even to their personal whims and fancies considering it as real.
