Fleet management under the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) involves direct and indirect systems linked to organization and management of vehicles used to offer medical services. The management aspect entails a wide array of factors such as economy and finance, fuel consumption, safety of patients and staff, vehicle maintenance and tracking, diagnostics, logistics and a couple of environmental factors. A good EMS fleet management entail having well trained, motivated staff, cost reduction strategies and acquisition of emergency vehicles in good condition.
A major risk factor in the fleet management under the Emergency Medical Services entails inability to coordinate the ambulances to ensure effective and efficient fast response to an emergency. This risk can be mitigated through an Ambulance Dispatch Software. The software has inbuilt ambulance tracking and surveillance system with automated data dispatch and distress signal. This reduces the poor coordination risk through the improved response periods and improves productivity through proficient use of the dispatcher and alert time.
Responses
Response to post 1: I agree with the assertion about staffing and fleet management. I agree with the writer that poor staffing can affect fleet management. Poor staffing would mean longer working hours by drivers resulting in fatigue. Just as the post suggests, scenarios of fatigue usually call for fleet managers to consider incorporating grey-feet drivers.
Response to post 2: It is true as suggested in the second post that adequate staffing and coverage of an area are important aspects of fleet management. I agree to the post that having adequate staffing help foster the company operations and competitiveness. Proper area coverage, as presented in the post would lead to efficiency and cost reduction. I believe that issues like accurate mileage recording, vehicle maintenance, approved mileage and accident management can be effectively handled with adequate staffing. This will also require putting into consideration payment of revenue and customs approved mileage also does well in ensuring such drivers adhere to only approved.
