Introduction
Football Super bowl remains one of the single most famous games in the modern dispensation. The history of this game is rather unique and interesting. The American football league and the National football league once had a relatively equal stature (Hetrick, 2013). The number of viewers and supporters were almost at the same level. Players from both the leagues were hunted for to play for clubs either of the outfits. The confusion that reigned there after proved a challenge to the officials of the leagues. Something had, therefore, to be done with immediate effect to ensure a common ground. The only options were to merge the two leagues so that a common feature of the game could be developed. Ordinarily, the leagues had the same features, but the difference only emerged based on the respective side a team got involved.
After the merger, the two leagues were redesigned to mean a conference. This meant that the champions from the two leagues had to contest in a final called the Super Bowl (Hetrick, 2013). From the time of inception, super bowl has grown in terms of audience. Many people today view the game as one of the most interesting phenomenon in this century. In America, the Super Bowl is considered the greatest day of all time after the thanksgiving. In a wider sense, it is considered a holiday for many people plan and prepare for the final of the Super Bowl in a manner never seen.
Pundits have argued that the Super Bowl should be given an attention befitting its status. The Uefa Champion league draws an audience all across the world with millions of people watching the final live. Super bowl comes second in the Champions league. Watched by over 100 million Americans, the game is also watched in Europe and other parts of the world including Africa. The finale gets a live broadcast on the main day, and this is destined to continue even for the next decade and many centuries to come. As the game continues to grow, it continues to draw audiences from all over the world and those who are aware of the game get to know about it.
The super bowl is a great source of entertainment. Many people gather for the big day as people take a day off to witness the events of the big day. Families and friends hold this event in high esteem and in fact, many people get to meet for the first time on this occasion. Integration is made possible as people from different backgrounds meet. Over the years, the super bowl has enabled a number of people to befriend while others have continued to be enemies as both coming from opposing sides. Generally, no ugly incidence has been experienced during the finals. Relative peace and decorum has been observed among the funs from the two different groups participating in the final. It is, however, critical to note that the final game of the super bowl has left many people divided depending on the winner and the looser. This has been largely experienced in the United States where there is a bigger fan base.
The media coverage for this event has been one of the most talked about. Some of the media stations mainly in America have schedules for future finals right ahead of time. This is testimony that the game is likely to be watched by many in the many years to come. The NBC, FOX and CBS are some of the broadcasting units that have continuously showed the game live. The most interesting part is that most of these stations have predetermined schedule for the game. Pundits have argued that, as the years progress, more media stations are likely to come on board to boast the media coverage of the event (Rowe, 2003).
On the business front, businesses pay more for advertisements during this event. It is assumed that since the game is watched by millions of people around the globe, advertisements are likely to receive the same audience. Ordinarily that would be the case since the advertisements take place during the breaks. Businesses have however used the opportunity over the years to take their businesses to the next level through advertisements. As a result, many people have been reached with more businesses boosted (Kanner, 2003). Broadcasting stations, therefore, take advantage of the situation to charge more on the advertisements. It is believed that a number of media houses have benefitted on this day more than any other organization participating in the event.
Super Bowl, to some extent has a majority of fans in the United States more than any other place in the world. Many people, to say the least, have never heard of the game. In most parts of Africa, Middle East and Asia, people are in the dark about the game. No one seems to acknowledge the rules of the game or even what it stands for. It is against this background that one would argue that super bowl still require to make itself known to the people. Most people unlike soccer do not play the game. In many parts of the world, people are more aware of soccer than super bowl. Children and adults all around the world are aware of soccer and not football that is largely known by a similar group in the United States.
While the broadcasting stations are justifiable in charging high amounts for advertisements during the game with respect to an expanded viewership, it is important to point out that the real beneficiaries are left out. The footballers who engage in the game should be the major beneficiaries of the funds that are received by the broadcasters. Without the game, it only remains business as usual. It is a humble submission that the respective teams are the major benefactors and not the broadcasting houses (Rowe, 2003).
Conclusion
The Super Bowl is a game that is likely to catch the attention of the world in the near future. It remains a famous game coming right after the Uefa Champions league that has a global viewership (Hetrick, 2013). As the broadcasting continues on a wider scale, the game is likely to gain more audience and could be the next big thing on the global fronts. The event that marks the Super Bowl final should be used to achieve some ends like social integration on different fronts. The success of the game, as well as the attraction of the global audience largely depends on awareness of the game by those oblivious to it. In the coming years, it would not surprise that super bowl would be a game watched on a planetary scale.
